Cyclops just about done:

Another over-exposed photo, sorry.  I'll be top coating all the stuff in the next day or so and get some proper daytime photos of the whole army together.

The painting "race/blog/thingy" idea has been great.  Each night after you put the sprogs in bed and stroll downstairs you have that "paint/watch the tube/read a book/surf the net" debate and usually the path of least effort wins.  Now painting wins each time :).  Only prob is speed painting is hard on the brushes....I'm going to have to spend a night just cleaning them properly.

So, from the original list, all that's left is to flock/seal the Guild Bikers and Overlord base, add a decal to the Colossus and Overlord, and do a matt varnish coat on most of the second batch.  Should be able to knock this over tonight and take some group photos Easter Friday.  I do think I need some of the special infantry stands so some conversions might be in order too :)

Zap, I agree.  That little bit of competition helps.  It wake up early and I am tempted to get on the computer or just go back to sleep, but I will think, "I can't go another day without posting SOME progress.  The will make me worse than Dwarrf Supreme!" :p

Well, I did nothing today because of the girls.  My three year old was up ALL night long.  Shadows, noises, lonely, thirsty, any excuse to stay awake.  Her awake means the baby will soon be awake so I spent the night in a toddler bed being kicked in the groin (those feet are at the perfect position to nail me every time). :glare:

But yesterday I managed to get some work done...

The SmoothOn 300 resin is good.  Not the miracle resin I was hoping for, but it certainly had less bubbles than the other stuff.

The cure time was longer too (3 minutes) so I didn't have to freak out about pouring it right away.  It gave me a chance to shake some bubbles out too.

For anyone who is interested in mold making and how much detail transfers, here is your answer.  It makes EXACT COPIES.  Warts n' all.  If you have a master model make sure it is good.  My Warbarque looked great until I started molding it.  Then I realized all those little imperfections that were okay since it was  a scratch built suddenly looked so awful when I made more than one of it.  :(

So here is what it looked like when I assembled it. ?I am not convinced I like the 'pilot' on top. ?I believe this mold came out better but I am thinking now that maybe another gun or an array or just nothing at all would be better on top than the pilot. ?I am open to suggestions!

I still had little bubbles - it is hard not to with all the grooves on this thing. ?This is my first time trying to use greenstuff to fill them in. ?We'll see how it works.

An interesting footnote is how light this resin is compared to the other type I used.  It is also weaker.  Not terribly so but you would certainly notice it on thinner castings.  It will hold its shape and will bend before it breaks.  Just some thoughts.  People who want a stronger resin may want to go with the SmoothOn300M (I think).  VERY fast cure time though.

I added some arms to the pilot too. ?

What's left? ?I need to drill out some holes in the gun barrels, add the landing gear, and make a final determination on the top assembly. ?If I stick with the pilot I will add the control rods that he is holding in the 40K sized model and paint it.

There isn't much left to do on the Necron project.  The Warbarque, the Flayed Ones, and a few more Wraiths.  Of course then I will be onto the BIG endeavor - the Dark Eldar. :alien:

I think I've been insulted.  :p

I got some painting done last night, mainly on the three Goliaths. When I took on the Thunderfires I want to paint, I noticed that I didn't do the best priming job on them. I think I primered them when the can was running out. So, I missed a few spots. Last night gave each a quick shot of primer to even out the base coat. That, of course, meant I couldn't actually paint them last night.

Yes, the silicon / resin process can even transfer fingerprints under some circumstances.

My personal preference is SmoothCast 310. It has a very long pot life, and I am usually able to service about 10 molds with one mixing. The long set-up time may be an inconvenience to some, but considering how I only get one chance a day to cast, this is immaterial to me.

I think you will get better results by using a toothpick to tease out the air bubbles.

And I desire your barques.

Thanks for the good advice. ?And if you desire one, I've  PM'd you and we can work out something. ?:) ?I don't think I could deny the Otterman after all I have read about you (or course it could all be fascist Imperial propaganda for all I know).

Ok, final stretch. ?Painted and based my Command stands.

From L to R, Tech Priest, Grand Warlord, Forward Observer, Fundamentalist. ?In the background is the detachment of Rhinos and of Shortbeards I knocked up at the same time. ?

The F.O is peeking his head out of his foxhole and has his trusty laser designator set up.

So, put banners on the three poles, and take a photo of the whole army and it's in the can :)
