Hi Guys,

Well... today did not work out.

I was the only one to show up for today's game... everyone else flaked on poor Vince. I don't understand it.

We spent the first half hour or so getting ready... setting up the board, getting the miniatures out, etc. And then Vince made a few calls and everyone who had previously confirmed simply flaked out without calling. I felt really bad for Vince.

After he'd confirmed that I would be the only show, we put everything back away and decided to watch the film I brought just in case: "Immortal."

"Immortal" was terrible. It was slow and the story was very difficult to follow. Even worse, much of the dialogue was in ancient Egyptian... without subtitles! I do not recommend "Immortal."

We played a quick game of "Lunch Money" from Atlas Games, which I didn't much care for. Vince won.

After that, ?we played a game of "Settlers of Cataan" and I won. I like that game. It's a classic.

We chatted for a little bit after that and discussed DBA, DBM, HOTT and possible games for the future. I will probably host my Hoth game and monster games there to playtest them before hosting them at the convention I plan to run one or both games at.

Vince is a great guy and really feel bad for him that the other guys flaked on him after confirming. And then they didn't call either (Except for Jon who told Vince he couldn't make it early last week.).

At any rate, I'm upset about today although I was glad to spend some time with Vince. I did feel let down that the big game didn't happen. I was looking forward to it.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Hi Tas,

------

Tas: Thanks for the updates M/Sim - glad you enjoyed the dinner and let us know about the sweets. ?I LOVE creme brulee....

You're welcome. I had some of the Creme Brulee today when I visited my parent's home today and I didn't think that the batch was that great.

My mother and I finished making the topping for the fancy cheesecake:

- Boil a small quantity of water until the sugar added to it dissolves completely stirring every few minutes and using a pastry brush to wipe down the sides of the pan so the sugar doesn't crust.
- Once boiled, add a small amount of creme and boil further until the sauce takes on a light brown caramel color.
- Add a small amount more of special confectionary sugar and boil long enough to reduce the mixture to roughly one half of the original volume...
- Chill the caramel sauce until it is thick enough to take on heavy sauce consistency but still warm enough to pour...
- Pour the sauce over the top of the cheesecake and spread evenly.
- Add small chunks of toffee and chocolate to the top of the sauce for presentation...
- Allow the sauce to cool and once cooled, remove the cake band, serve and EAT...

All that work for a little sauce... only for my mother!  :)

------

Tas: Speaking of food, I know this will amuse you:
Scene: My daughter was at Sunday school after Church last week and they were teaching them about Exodus, Passover etc and so they had a traditional Passover Feast for lunch.

The Passover Seder might have had one feature they could have possibly omitted: mo leavened bread and ONLY matzo! The hardest part about Passover AKA Pesach for most children is giving up all baked goods for a week... cookies, cake, bread, rolls, donuts, muffins, etc.

It's really easy to take leavened baked goods for granted until you miss them.

------

Tas: She came home afterwards still wiping gravy and lamb off her lips saying "I wish I was Jewish - then we could have roast lamb EVERY week" :D :p :;):

Thanks for the story. You were right... I really enjoyed it. Lamb is a part of the Passover meal, but it isn't usually served with gravy... that was probably a local custom.

As a side note, some of my favorite people that I've ever spent Passover with have been Ozzies. Ozzies are a blessed people and I think that God smiles down upon them.

------

Tas: DBX and HOTT are very similar, in fact HOTT was derived from DBM. I can understand why he doesn't like HOTT as much, but the addition of fantasy stuff to DBX is dead easy. There are some good HOTT sites out there too with extra units and rules.

They're all Phil Barker specials! :D

If you have the URLs for those web sites you mentioned, I'd love to take a look at them.

Thanks for being such a pleasant person, Tas. You bring a lot to this forum and I'm very glad that you are here.

------

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

They had proper unleavened bread and the sour herbs (they got the yuck face!) but the lamb was most popular. I think she would be a carnivore if I let her...

The best HOTT site out there is "The Stronghold," and it has many links to other HOTT sites. Start there for sure:

The other brilliant DBA site is Fanaticus:

Thanks for being such a pleasant person, Tas. You bring a lot to this forum and I'm very glad that you are here.

Thank you friend, I feel the same way. :) ?

There is a core group of guys here who really make this place what it is, and you are one of them. ?I just wished we all lived close enough for some regular gaming and save on trades postage! ?

Hi Guys,

Today I'll be babysitting my nephews so I'll get to meet a number of Dafrca's summer ambitions:

- Swimming...
- Spending time with the nephews...
- Playing games with them (Eventually they'll like wargaming, right?)...
- And the like...

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

So Makim,

*** What "scale" will be your Hoth battle be? ***?

I know that you're using Mechwarrior infantry which is about 10mm. ?

*** So are you vehicle models going to be the same size? ***

Just wondering.

Hi Luis,

The infantry will be modelled at 10mm scale (A combination of Clickie Mechwarrior and AMT / ERTL / MPC kit infantry), but most everything else is modelled at 6mm scale.

The AT-ATs are larger ones from the AMT / ERTL / MPC kits and are much larger than the Micro Machines ones.

Most other vehicles (Snowspeeders, AT-STs, Golan laser towers, etc.) scale well around 6mm.

The terrain is mostly scaled around 6mm, but the difference in the two scales can be small at times. The differences between a power generator at 6mm and 10mm scales is pretty miniscule.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

That's exactly the reason I started buying some "Pirates of the Spanish Main" packs. ?}:) ?

And I'm about to order "Saurian Safari" at last.

Hi Guys,

My nephews are Godzilla fans (The video game for Game Cube really helps!) and they've even watched my Godzilla movie DVD before I have (Lent it to them... ), BUT the problem right now is that they lack the patience to site down and play a game with less than immediate gratification... video games both help and hinder...

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.
