HI Tas, Dafrca and Gang,

I like DBA, DBM and the DBx series, but the rules are viciously hard to understand because of the writing! Once you actually play them, they're fine, but until...

There's a local group that's playing a lot of DBA and I have a box of figures waiting (Many are cleaned and primed as well... ), but...

I made my resolutions to get Godzilla and Hoth going first...

Tas, I love the DBA Dinosaur lists... very cool!  :)

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Hi Lou,

CC: Is there any info on your Hoth project?

Yes, here's the plan:

I've been working on a couple of 6mm sci-fi projects lately (21 May 2005):

--------------------------------

1. Battle of Hoth:

PLASTIC KITS & MECHWARRIOR GAMING PIECES: I have been assembling a Hoth force using a mixture of AMT/ERTL/MPC Battle of Hoth action Scene figures and cheap Mechwarrior Clickie-tech TM figures.

10mm METAL MINIS: Several manufactuerers do make 10mm metal miniatures including Reaper's CAV, AOG's OOP GROPOS, DP-9's Heavy Gear and others.

CHEAP MECHWARRIOR 10mm FIGURES: I like some of those 10mm metal miniatures but went with the mix of plastic model kit figures and Mechwarrior clickie figures because they were extremely affordable. I can get Mechwarrior Clickie figures for a US Dollar or less a figure and often for a US quarter or less. Most Mechwarrior figures come with three to five infantry on them and when I cut them out and base them on 3/8", 1/2" or 3/4" inch fender washers then they really go far.

STANDARD FENDER WASHER BASING: I have based them either singly for partial squads or in multiples (3-5) for heavy squads. Heavy weapon teams are based on larger fender washers to fit everyhting.

ODD INFANTRY BASING: The plastic AMT/ERTL/MPC Taun-tauns fit pretty well on 1/2" fender washers. Most heavy equipments (Imperial E-web repeating blasters, Imperial AT-ST walkers, Rebel Atgar defense lasers, Rebel Golan Defence Turrets, Rebel heavy repeating blasters, etc.) are based on 3/4" or 1" fender washers.

AT-AT BASING: The AMT/ERTL/MPC AT-ATs have custom bases to fit their elongated walker forms.

AT-ST MODELS: I'm using a mix of the AMT/ERTL/MPC AT-STs and Micro Machines AT-STs.

REBEL SNOWSPEEDERS: I'm using a mix of the AMT/ERTL/MPC snowspeeders and Micro Machines snowspeeders.

ECHO STATION: I am using a customized Micro Machines toy base for Echo Station.

REBEL GENERATOR: I am using the vacuform generators for this piece. I may use some pieces made for my 6mm Epic minis as well.

REBEL ION CANNON: I am using a piece cut off my Micro Machines toy base for this model.

REBEL STARSHIP FLEET: I am using a mix of AMT/ERTL/MPC Millenium Falcons and Rebel Transports as well as some Micromachine Electronic Collectors Edition Rebel Blockade Runners (Corellian Corvettes) for the Rebel fleet escaping Hoth.

RULES: I have been playing with either using the WEG "Assault on Hoth" game rules or a DIRTSIDE II adaption. Both have pros and cons. I have also tried a few home-brew sets.

RESOLUTION: I made a New Year's resolution to complete this project this year (2005). That's one of the reasons I started this E-group - SSSW ? SSSW (Small Scale Star Wars) Wargaming - to help me share ideas and keep me motivated.

URL for SSSW:

http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/SSSW/

DS-II ADAPTION / RULES:

I've been modifying and editing the document found here for an improved trial run of the rules. I've run the scenario twice and enjoyed it, but the scenario could use a facelift:

http://www.cygnusx1.info/ds2/multiverse ... p#vehicles

-----------------
(Located on Page 59 of this blog... )

I'm basing infantry and Taun-tauns right now as well as trying to figure out how to base the AT-ATs...

The AMT/ERTL/MPC AT-ATs are pretty arge and awkward...

My current measurements for a base for them is a 1&5/8" x 3&5/8" rectangle. I'm going to need to custom-mke it no matter how I go. It's simply a big unwieldy piece.

I'm also playing the WEG "Assault on Hoth" game to keep inspired and think of how I want to structure my rules. I like DS-II as well as the WEG game, but I think I'd be best off writing my own rule set. I want something simple enough to run at a convention with multiple players.

I'm thinking of up to five players for the Imperials (x1 AT-At per player as well as other forces with one player controlling General Veers) and around the same number for the Rebels (x1 player for the static defences and the other four Rebels would run Snowspeeders with one player controlling Luke.).

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

They had the licence to produce Star Wars model kits for quite a few years, until very recently...

- I believe they also make model railway stuff as well (although I may be getting confused, definitely some other model kits).

Hi Guys,

I've been doing a little side reading about WOTW today...

------

I found this site for a WOTW RPG:

http://www.geocities.com/TimesSq....ex.html

------

A site for a BBC WOTW TV seies:

http://www.gnelson.demon.co.uk/Tripods.html

------

H.G. Wells books on-line:

http://www.classicreader.com/author.php/aut.10/

------

I'm curious to check out these books:

The War of the Worlds, by H. G. Wells
- The original novel, here in e-text format. A must-read.

MARS, by Percival Lowell
- One of the main proponents of the theory of an inhabited Mars, renowned for seeing a system of canals spanning the face of Mars.

The Tripods Trilogy, by John Christopher
- (The White Mountains, The City of Gold and Lead, The Pool of Fire) What might have happened had the Martians won. Those are Fighting-Machines, aren't they?

War of the Worlds: Global Dispatches, edited by Kevin J. Anderson
- The Martian Invasion as seen by various contemporary notables.

The Space Machine, by Christopher Priest
- A kind of The War of the Worlds and The Time Machine cross-over. Good scientific romance, also very useful for information on Martian society.

The Martian Chronicles, by Ray Bradbury

------

*** Anyone read any of these books? ***

*** Has anyone seen the BBC Tripods TV series? ***

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Hi Lou,

*** CC: I'm not familar with AMT/ERTL/MPC, is that a company? ***

AMT/ERTL/MPC are three different companies that make plastic model kits of cars, planes, etc. They all shared a license for making Star Wars model kits in the past and may do so again.

AMC and ERTL are mostly based in the USA.

MPC is mostly based in the UK.

I'm a big fan of their sci-fi model kits.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Hi Guys,

I almost forgot about tonight's plans:

Jon: Hi All,

Just a reminder that tonight is the first turn of Next War. Show up anytime after 4:30. I expect we'll probably commence with pushing counters around 6-6:30pm (we'll need a bit of time to discuss the preliminaries). I don't expect to play much past 9:00pm.

For food we can call for pizza, get Chinese, or whatever you like. If you can't make it until later, not a problem, just let us know.

Next War is a board game.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

I read Well's WOTW many years ago and I've been thinking about digging out my copy of it and reading it again. Then again maybe I should wait till after I see the movie so that the movie won't disappoint me too ?much. ?:D

Have a look at this as well, Maksim:

I haven't got it yet, but I've heard that it's good - note the stats for walkers, etc. for the Invasion of Monster Island rules! :)

I read these in about 5th-6th grade I think it was. ?Very much for younger readers. The invaders (Who are shaped like tripods, as well as building giant tripod fighting machines) fire electronic "skull caps" at all of the humans to keep them under control. Some of the caps don't work (Or rebels run away so they don't get one) and a resistance movement forms to kick them off the planet.

Can't be more specific after twenty-five years but I remember enjoying them at the time!

The Martian Chronicles, by Ray Bradbury

Also very good, but from a very different perspective to WOTW. In this case, Humans colonise Mars, only to find that the original inhabitants (Who are very small in number and live underground...) aren't very happy...

Of course, then there is the RED, GREEN & BLUE MARS series by Robinson, very hard Sci-fi with no Martians (or tripods!) but a good read nonetheless...

UUULLLLLLAAAAAA! ?:D
