Hi!

Once upon a time I used to like to "convert" the unwashed masses of non-gamers. It was fun back then. As I get older though I rather just share with people "in the know". Less work and more fulfilling.

Hello Guys,

Just to be clear how I feel: If someone shows an interest, I am not above sharing both information and if I have extras, some minis to get them started. My real issue is I do not have the time, energy, nor desire to "explain myself" to those who do not want to understand.

Pretty much sums up my sentiments as well.

I'm more extreme than that at the moment... basically I want someone who knows the rules (better than me preferably!), and has a fully painted army.   Sadly anything else is too much work with my busy lifestyle right now  :(

Hi, I'm with you guys, the wife doesn't mind, though is not interested, the guys at work are inclined to the 'what, you STILL play with toy soldiers, that's really sad' mentality, so I keep quiet unless somebody expresses an interest, I don't particularly hide it though, I'm proud.

I tend to tell people I'm into "Military history". It tends to stop the un-knowing dead in their tracks and sparks conversations with those interested.

I had a magazine in the pub after work one night, after buying a round came back to find the guys (and girls) looking at it, started asking questions etc. They seemed impressed when I showed them the 6mm painted stuff and told them that's what I do - didn't tell them that my efforts don't even come close to mag standard though...   :-)

Hi!

Marckonz, I can relate to your point of view since I think as time slowly passes I tend more and more to your view. As you get older time becomes more scarse and you just want to enjoy your hobby, not lecutre about it.

I too, tell people if it comes up, that I'm a military historian. ?Based on my interests and previous career. ?And model building and wargaming is an extention of that. ? If they seem interested I may go further, and many find it interesting. However, few make it into my "War Room", those that do are quite amazed. ?But like many things in one's personal life, it may not be anyone's business ... ?:) ?As far as females go, a topic which has preoccupied me much more than usual over the past few months, I don't care if she interested in anything but me ! :p ?And I in her ! ?Most women I meet have very little in common with me as my interests are fairly narrow ... ?So if it is to go beyond a casual acquaintance, we must bond on an intellectual/emotional level. ?Far beyond them just coming to the gym, or whatever ... ?Women, as much as I (generally :D ) like them (and I do !), some (much) more than others ( ) have usually been a "sidebar" in my life. ?(But I did spend a lot of time in my younger days in pursuit [Tom !] !) ?Unfortunately recent events have shown otherwise. ?And at this point I still don't know how it will play out ... ??? ? Again ... wish me luck !

I do not hide it per say, but I do not spotlight it either. If someone (a non-gamer) asks I offer some info and try to gage their interest to the level of detail. But I do agree, there are a lot of my co-workers who do not know I am a gamer because I just do not want to deal with it.

When I first read this I thought this is my viewpoint.

It was only today when I remembered that my Felix Gaming Pages actually got me three job interviews and out of those I was actually offered two of the jobs.

I use not mention it, and then one day applying for a job as a commissioning editor for a publisher, I put on my CV all my websites. Got an interview and got offered the job. I do remember at the first interview that the interviewer mentioned that though she did not understand anything on the website it was an excellent website.

I also put it on another application (with bbc.co.uk) and also got an interview (in the end they didn't appoint).

I also put it on another application and did get offered the job which I took.
