Just to give a sense of perspective...

Speculation on the RPG business boards is that the entire D&D brand could be bought for something in the USD8-10 million range.  $10 million in GW stock might not even be a reportable position, depending on how the market moved that day.

GW's market cap is ~100,000,000 GBP.  Solid control would require 20%.  AFAIK, no one holder has more than ~6-7%, so even if you negotiated buying out 1-2 major holders, that leaves a LOT of shares to purchase on the open market.  By the time the market price inflates, and you jumped through all the regulatory hoops, a serious buyer would need to be willing to commit GBP30 million or USD 60 million in a short time frame.

Hasbro has a market cap of $4.5 billion.  I think they could snap up a controlling share of GW stock in a heartbeat.

Mindless speculation is one of my strong suits !!! But honestly ... IMO ... let G/W be sucked into the WarP !  We just did an exercise here on a definitive 6mm Sci-fi list !  So again, DRM, E/W, GZG, SJG, etc., etc., etc., if G/W or even F/W never produces another 6mm piece again - IMO - so what !  But that is selfish of me since I only collect 6mm Sci-fi ... and have a large Epic collection (I am a selfish b*a*s*t*a*r*d !)  :( Sorry ... :;):

Don't be sorry. I feel the same way. I'm way past the need to have GW's "official" seal of approval.

From a thermodynamics point of view, a state of order can only be reached by traversing a state of increased chaos.

But, increasing chaos does not inevitably lead to increased order in a system...

Dancy's the guys name.

Here's the article I referred to above.

I like how he says the same thing we've been saying for the last 2 years - other companies are eating into GW's market share with good quality product.  He specifically mentions Privateer Press as the primary perpetrator but I'd say that Confrontation has helped that as well.

Also, "a customer base that feels abused and neglected" is pretty well spot on.

<----speculates wildly

If I had enough money (*places pinky finger to corner of mouth palm facing outward) I'd buy GW, move it to the U.S., make Epic and BFG the core games since they are better games (IMO), continue to produce the WHFB/40k models, but scrap the horrid rules of the core games and replace them with something more open to freelance input but central control of what is "canon" and what is not.  Of course this would mostly just to be contrary.  Heck, I'd probably bring back Squats just to stick it in thier craws.  Chances of me having this much money at a single point in time, very very very small.

I figured D/S, you'd feel as I do ! I feel sorry for some of the new guys, who are hoping to get lucky and G/W changes it's out look on Epic.  But most of us, know the deal as many have stated here ... And again, as Neal mentioned, other companies are getting G/W's business/$$$ ...  I know many of us are fleshing out our MTO&Es with DRM, E/W, GZG, etc. ...  And  SGT C, I agree, the 40K rules are horrid !  But if you did buy Epic, you'd have to get DRM and E/W to do many if not most of the Epic models since the molds were destroyed !    Or are sitting in the same warehouse as the Arch and WMDs !  :;):

The WFB rules are actually pretty good IMO.

I can't say the same about 40k...  :p

The advantage of Special Games being a non-core & neglected GW unit:

No sloppy rules designer who release faq upon approved every week.

Consistency in rules and fluff is what SG has.
