Thanks for the feedback. I think that I have come up with a basing system that I really like. It isnt cheap (not, not too expensive either) and I hope that it will look really good and be easy (the Holy Grail of basing!).

I wont say any more until I have something to actually show. And I will be looking out for both DRM and EW bases soon. I know that the DRM ones are 'Warmaster equivalent', but can you confirm that the EW are a similar size?

Thanks.

Now you've got me curious.

The EW bases are closer to Epic bases.  They have a minimally smaller area - about 10mm broad compared to GW's 12mm.

The only real size diference between E/W ad Epic is that the Epic base is slightly sloped on the sides which accounts for the extra mm. The E/W bases are also slightly taller but compared to a fuly sanded and flocked Epic base the difference should be minimal.

Sorry, yes, I have some of the standard EW bases (in fact, I even posted pictures here somewhere). Tom mentioned rectangular bases - are these the ones that come with the minis?

I think that this force has wonderful character and I hope to build one sometime in the far off future.

Many thanks. I would certainly like to see different interpretations of this.

I've decided that when I run out of my current set of Epic palstic bases, I'm going over to 15mmx40mm bases... easy to get ahold of at an inexpensive price.

The more that I think about it, the more I am moving over to 20mm x 40mm (Warmaster) bases. I just find that this gives the right space to fit around five minis, doesnt look odd if you have less, will fit seven, and has room to make things interesting.

RE: Characters - I will most likely make the fourth generation character a 'standard' upgrade (taking no upgrade slots) and allow up to one psyker per base (so, up to twelve!) as a single upgrade. How does this sound?

CS - yes the Eldar 1.8 you referred to is THE list.

Great, thanks. I will give it a better look over, and make some changes to my own Eldar Craftworld list to reflect this. Anything that comes up, I will post here.

Thanks.

10 x 40, they are the same bases that the Legion Centuria, Shadow Knights, Fyrd, Kamikaze Droids and the Prefect Garrison use :).

Well...when I ran out of plastic GW bases, I turned to popsicle sticks, cut to size. ?Works alright for me... and you can't beat the price! ?:p

ib

Except for the weight gain from eating all those popsicles!  :D

Not too bad... three pages of posts and not a miniature in sight yet!  :confuse:

EA Genestealer Cult

I have reversed my decision on the issue of psykers. My reasoning is that these guys would probably be confined to more influencial units in the Cult, and not joining 'standard' brood brother bands. Also, the rogue psyker addition does change the focus of the formation, and takes away from the 'faceless masses' theme that I like for this. Anyway, I have decided not to include any in this formation. The fourth generation will be a 'standard' upgrade (points paid, but no upgrade slots used), as will trucks for the boys. Upgrading the trucks to APCs (Chimera equivalent) will be an upgrade slot.

So, my first Cult formation consists of:

11 Brood brother stands (Imperial Guard equivalent, no heavy weapons)
1 Brood brother stand with a fourth generation hybrid leader (human looking creepy guy)
6 APCs (Chimera equivalent transports)
3 Inferno support tanks (Hellhound equivalent)

EA Dia'Thendril Eldar Campaign Force

My alternative project is the assembly of the campagin Eldar for my next game. This consists of:

Wraithgate
Guardian Warhost (Farseer, Guardian Defender Unit x4, Guardian Storm Squads x3, Wave Serpent x4, Vyper)
Guardian Warhost (Farseer, Guardian Defender Unit x7, Wave Serpent x4)
War Walker Host (8x War Walkers)
Aspect Warrior (Dragon x2, Reaper, Reaper + Exarch, Wave Serpent x2)
Fire Prism Troupe (3x Fire Prisms)
Night Spinner Troupe (3x Night Spinners)
Revenant Titans (2x Revenants)
Jet Bike Troupe (6x Jet Bike units)

However, I will not be assembling the Warp Gate, or the two Revenants. I have checked with my opponent, and he has agreed that I can proxy these units. This is because I really dont like the Warp Gate mini, but dont building my own is a future project, and the Revenants are difficult to store and again I want to spend time on these guys in the future.

In addition, since I will be using these unpainted (gasp!) I will not be adding the Exarch to the Reaper stand (my standard practice is to leave the Exarchs off, so that it is clear where they should be, and lets me convert or paint them a different colour later).

Some of this force is already assembled, since this is about the third or fourth game in the campaign, but I hope to have the entire lot ready for battle in the near future.

Thanks.

My paint station rule is: A maximum of two projects (formation, squad, squadron, etc) at the station at any time, and at least one of those must be for the main building force. This should keep things focussed.

So, in the month since my last post here, any guesses as to how much I have got done? Perhaps moved on to the formation? Eldar finished, Brood Brothers done, Genestealers on the way?

Eight out of the twelve infantry stands are based up. Eight!  :(  Four more to put together, then the 4th Gen, then six transports and two flame tanks. This could take a while.

In other news... the 'law of two' (see above quote) + 'shiney toy sindrome' = instant dedication!

In order to move on to something else that has caught my eye, I am required to finish assembly of my campaign Eldar force. So, last weekend saw the cleaning, assembly and basing of one Vyper, one Wave Serpent and eight War Walkers. This, for me, was a result.

Not even as interesting as watching paint dry!  ???

More to follow as soon as I have actually done something.

OK. Who the hell designed the Eldar Night Spinners? I have just spent more than 40 minutes trying to fix one of the guns in place! Who thought that glueing the pin into a hole would support the entire weight of the barrel before it even dries?

I have put together a number of Epic minis in my time, but this must rank as one of the most crazy. I am not even sure that I have the weapon support tower in the correct way (although I dont suppose that it really matters so much). I will have to come back to the actual Spinners... otherwise the tank really will turn into a flier!

They are real pain to build..
Rear wings are so curved that they need lots of work.. But at last when ready they are very pretty models.

Lol, yeah that brings back memories of putting my own nightspinners together! I ended up using a messy arangement of card and bluetack to hold the barrels in place...

Have you noticed one of the back wings has one more panel than the other. It's a pain when you are doing them with stripes like this.

It had me swearing. I had no problems with gluing though. Must be all the Landraider crusaders and LOTR trolls I've glued together for sprogs.

Wow, you are right. Six on one side, seven on the other. Why would the Eldar build something so unsymmetrical?

I will have another go at them today. Thanks for the detailed picture mbr - that should help. I have had no problems with the rear wings, but I can tell that putting them straight would be a real pain.

Thanks.

A revalation, to pass on to future generations... When assembling Night Spinners, glue the turret to the vehicle, then the barrels to the support tower before attaching the tower to the tank. Much easier!
