OK, so Ive been home a few days and have taken a stock of my life, fortunes and immediate future. ?

I'm home on and off for the next two months, then depart my current job and go on a local course from August until October (mostly time at home) then join my next ship (as Second in Command) in early November for the next 2 years. ?the first 6 months will be in refit so more time at home(-ish) then who knows???

So where am I at gaming wise?

What am I playing RIGHT NOW?

Just started a Wings Over France campaign game with 2 other chaps in which I am the Sqn CO. ?As far as I can tell, this is the first internet based multi-Flight campaign for this game. ?Cool!

You can check out how my lads of A Flight, 23 Squadron Royal Flying Corps are going here:
http://mypeoplepc.com/members/jasta6/WoF_No23_SQ/

Immediate Projects
Stuff to play with the kids (my only close opponents!)
I have been having a ball with them playing Dino Hunting (Saurian Safari) and Godzilla Wars (Monster Island) as you know. ?I'm working on some ideas for expanding my Dino Hunts to get a river boat and include "Moby Rex" - hunt for the Great White Dinosaur...

I have just bought some cheap Micro Machine pod racers off ebay and will soon be contructing a rudimenatry track to race around the lounge room with. ?We had some quick oes around some hills amde of books but the modeller in me rebelled...

For anyone with a hankering to give this a whirl, look here for some quick, easy yet fun rules:
http://www.thanesgames.com/
(you may see some rules mods from yours truly also!)

Aeronef/Aquanef
Still procrastinating over what fleets to buy and the balance between Admiralty wish lists and the what budget Parliament will approve. ?Eagerly awaiting the release later this year of Aquanef so I can skirimish beneath the waves...

WW2 Version of "Lock N Load"
Just finsihed doing soem playtesting for this game which is now in final production

War of the Worlds
I want Tripods. ?I want to play WOTW. ?
I know I dont have time to paint or play. ?
But I wants them

Epic
Sadly a bit of a standstill really, due to the very disrupted time at home which makes it hard to start and stop painting. ?Plus I use the study to paint which means when I am away and my wife uses the room she doesnt want to share it with my WIP (Whats wrong with her? ?How she se half paitned Totans and so forth and NOT be inspired? ?Its not right....)

Currently I have:
* very satisfactory armies for SM and IG which have substantial portions painted and 90% of what I want at least purchased if not painted. ?

* boxes worth of untouched Orks (they really just dont inspire me as a force...I just cant get into the WAAAAAGH). ?May soon offer up the whole lot for Trade if anyone is interested?

* a small Chaos force (Word Bearer Traitor marines WIP) which is expecting a MASSIVE reinforcement from the Eye Of Terror once Maksim gets the MEGATRADE stuff sorted out.

* a small Nid force whcih really isnt even a Hive Fleet booger's worth of chittering death. ?This is my priority army for purchase and development

* not yet purchased a single EA blister of minis....I guess because I was happy with most of my SM/IG stuff, dont like Orks and am waiting for Chaos and Nids.

Long Term Projects
15mm DBA Armies for Ancients ?-Imperial Rome, Gaul, Germania and ?Ancient Briton (I got all inspired when I was travelling around UK and Europe!)

15mm DBA Armies for English and French Hundred Years War (I got all inspired when I was travelling around Normandy and England!)

Blood Bowl - Human Team (Playboy Bunnies). ?To be ready for our next "Shamrock Cup Tournament" in 2008 (yes, its an Olympic Event, first played in the Shamrock Hotel in Hong Kong while on deployment in 2000 while watching the Sydney Olympics, replayed in 2004)

Battlestar Galactica Starfighter game - bought the miniatures, started converting the Silent Death rules. ?Got sidetracked...

[ On the Shelf until further notice
BFG Fleets (due to lack of opponents) - Imperial, Marine, Chaos & Dark Eldar

Full Thrust Minis and campaign. ?Havent played for years but loved it...

A big stack of Wargames

Thats all that comes readily to mind. ?There is a stash of stuff in the garage, some of it long languishing but all loved and appreciated. ?I might not get back to it this year, but I will one day... ? :L

Hi Tas,

Cool! I am very taken in by all of your great projects, but...

*** Why isn't OGRE mentioned? ***

Shalom,

Maksim, you along with a few others here (dafrca, V, Mojarn, CC & Primarch to name the most guilty) are the masters of ongoing projects - I am but the apprentice!

You are right, there are a few others that now come to mind, all on the long term storgae shelf -for now:

OGRE - I have a substantial collection of OGRE/GEV stuff (board and minis) which gets dragged out from time t time.  I have bought a few bargain OGRE Minis lately when I find them cheap, the the demise of my website (due to software epiry) means that I would have to rebuild my whole website from scratch (Again!) and I really cant face that anytime soon.

28mm WW2
I bought compiled a large of Germans and Russians (plus tanks and terrain) while I was in England, intending to play when I got home, but got posted to a different location to my WW2 gaming partner in crime, so now they all unopened in a dusty box.  I should convert them to Epic minis...

1/1200 Naval Minis
A large collection (again compiled while in UK) of WW2 German and British Coastal Forces and convoys.  I am 75% complete (and have been for a few years...) writing a whole history of the Black Sea naval and amphibious campaign in WW2 between the Axis Forces and the Soviets.  It is a very interesting theatre as it inlcuds Italin, Romanian & Hungarian units as well.

1/6000 WW2
Again, a large collection (but 99% painted this time) of US, UK, Russian, Dutch, german and Italian fleets.  They are tiny, but I have everything from carriers and Battleships to DDs, sloops and corvette.  Great for big fleet actions.

Plus I have the compulsory large collection of rules and campaign supplemnts for everything from ancients to Franco-Prussian, WW2 and SciFi.  All gamers seem to colelct rules and I am no exception!

More to follow probably as memory allows.... :;):

Hi Tas,

Tas: Stuff to play with the kids (my only close opponents!) I have been having a ball with them playing Dino Hunting (Saurian Safari) and Godzilla Wars (Monster Island) as you know. ?I'm working on some ideas for expanding my Dino Hunts to get a river boat and include "Moby Rex" - hunt for the Great White Dinosaur...

I've been stowing some items in my "6mm Godzilla" box...

Apparently someone threw in some 28mm Albion Fen Beats that are just waiting to become 4-story tall "protectors of nature"... :D

I also found two great "rock guardians" that I found in a Good Will thrift store...

Tas: I have just bought some cheap Micro Machine pod racers off ebay and will soon be contructing a rudimenatry track to race around the lounge room with. ?We had some quick goes around some hills made of books but the modeller in me rebelled...

For anyone with a hankering to give this a whirl, look here for some quick, easy yet fun rules:
http://www.thanesgames.com/
(you may see some rules mods from yours truly also!)

I also have a few podracers, but have only used them twice... and with the same rule set as you! :D

Tas: Aeronef/Aquanef
Still procrastinating over what fleets to buy and the balance between Admiralty wish lists and the what budget Parliament will approve.?Eagerly awaiting the release later this year of Aquanef so I can skirimish beneath the waves...

I'm not really interested in this genre, but I have a whole bunch of VSF iron ships that support my Squats.

Tas: WW2 Version of "Lock N Load"
Just finished doing some playtesting for this game which is now in final production.

Cool! I loved the Vietnam "Lock N'Load" game.

I just checked my 6mm Vietnam box... added in a number of PBR riverine boats, PACV, a few Hueys, M-41 Walkers, A-37s and the like...

The new GHQ Vietnam infantry is outstanding! It's crying out to be me... Convert "Lock N'Load" to miniatures, Maks... :D

Tas: War of the Worlds
I want Tripods. ?I want to play WOTW. ?
I know I dont have time to paint or play. ?
But I wants them

Me too!

My WWII and modern armored forces can deal with tripods and Martians when they are done with Godzilla...

GZG, Studio Bergstrom and a few others make tripods...

Tas: Currently I have:
* very satisfactory armies for SM and IG which have substantial portions painted and 90% of what I want at least purchased if not painted. ?

Me too...

I just moticed that I have Blood Angels, Ultramarines and Space Wolves, but almost no Dark Angels...

I also have some Silver Skulls...

I have all kinds of IG... plenty.

Tas: * boxes worth of untouched Orks (they really just dont inspire me as a force...I just cant get into the WAAAAAGH). ?May soon offer up the whole lot for Trade if anyone is interested?

*** I want to trade some BFG chaos, interested? ***

Tas: * a small Chaos force (Word Bearer Traitor marines WIP) which is expecting a MASSIVE reinforcement from the Eye Of Terror once Maksim gets the MEGATRADE stuff sorted out.

I haven't forgotten... almost there...

I do have a problem though... I'm not sure how much of the chaos stock I have came from Dalton... I had a pretty good amount beforehand...

Tas: * a small Nid force whcih really isnt even a Hive Fleet booger's worth of chittering death. ?This is my priority army for purchase and development...

I can see what I can do from you...

*** Need any Hive Tyrants or Dominatrixes? ***

Tas: * not yet purchased a single E-A blister of minis....I guess because I was happy with most of my SM/IG stuff, don't like Orks and am waiting for chaos and Nids.

I haven't either although I've acquired a few in trade.

I'm also waiting for 'Nids! :D

Tas: Long Term Projects
15mm DBA Armies for Ancients ?-Imperial Rome, Gaul, Germania and Ancient Briton (I got all inspired when I was travelling around UK and Europe!)

I just finished collecting the last of the 6mm Ancients into their box!

I also have a box of 6mm Fantasy!

I need to buy a copy of the DBA rules though and the associated bases...

DBA is up to version 2.2 now, I hear...

Tas:
Battlestar Galactica Starfighter game - bought the miniatures, started converting the Silent Death rules. ?Got sidetracked...

I bought the DVDs about a month ago and am also enthralled...

*** Did you buy your minis from Studio Bergstrom? ***

I want to do this, but have forced myself to wait until I get to my Hoth and Godzilla projects!

Tas: [On the Shelf until further notice]
BFG Fleets (due to lack of opponents) - Imperial, Marine, Chaos & Dark Eldar

I haven't played BFG in ages either...

Tas: Full Thrust Minis and campaign. ?Havent played for years but loved it...

I have played Full Thrust several times this year though...

Tas: OGRE - I have a substantial collection of OGRE/GEV stuff (board and minis) which gets dragged out from time to time. ?I have bought a few bargain OGRE Minis lately when I find them cheap, the the demise of my website (due to software piracy) means that I would have to rebuild my whole website from scratch (Again!) and I really cant face that anytime soon.

My OGRE stuff is also on hiatus...

I have a notion to build Chines and Japanese forces in the near future using GZG and Irregular forces from my stores...

Irregular sci-fi minis are a bit crude so... Chinese.

GZG look a bit high-tech so... Japanese.

Tas: 28mm WW2
I bought compiled a large of Germans and Russians (plus tanks and terrain) while I was in England, intending to play when I got home, but got posted to a different location to my WW2 gaming partner in crime, so now they all unopened in a dusty box. ?I should convert them to Epic minis...

Both Tony and Dean asked me the other day ago about pulling out my WWII microarmor and doing some East Front again...

Tas: 1/1200 Naval Minis
A large collection (again compiled while in UK) of WW2 German and British Coastal Forces and convoys. ?I am 75% complete (and have been for a few years...) writing a whole history of the Black Sea naval and amphibious campaign in WW2 between the Axis Forces and the Soviets. ?It is a very interesting theatre as it inlcuds Italin, Romanian & Hungarian units as well.

I have some modern GHQ Harpoon minis if you are interested in them...

Tas: Plus I have the compulsory large collection of rules and campaign supplemnts for everything from ancients to Franco-Prussian, WW2 and Sci-Fi. ?All gamers seem to collect rules and I am no exception!

Don't we all... :D

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Great idea - Ive discovered that HLBS do some 28mm "Triffids" that will soon become Mutated Eco-Beasts, Guardians of the Forest!

[QUOTE]I also have a few podracers, but have only used them twice... and with the same rule set as you!

My 4 1/2 yr old is just discovering Star Wars, which is so very cool!  We watched the Hoth Battle last night - he would be your first player for your Hoth project if we lived a tad nearer!

Cool! I loved the Vietnam "Lock N'Load" game.

Mee too, as did some others here, like L4.  It got me interested in helping with the WW2 version.  Which also means I should get a free copy!  My mate also helpedwitht eh Australian nam variant "ANZAC Attack!"

I just moticed that I have Blood Angels, Ultramarines and Space Wolves, but almost no Dark Angels...
I also have some Silver Skulls...

I'm the opposite - it 95% DA, with a half painted company of Flesh Tearers

I need to buy a copy of the DBA rules though and the associated bases...

DBA is up to version 2.2 now, I hear...

I have a spare copy of the rules at 2.0 if you are interested. Great rules

Sure did!  Nice aren't they!

I haven't forgotten... almost there...

I know, that wasnt too rude of me was it?  Wasnt meant to be, know you've been busy.  It *would* be nice though... :;):

That mix up is a bit of a problem...Maybe Dalton can help out???  From what he said about the 4 power mix, it was pretty diverse

I can see what I can do from you...

*** Need any Hive Tyrants or Dominatrixes? ***

I need pretty much everything, actually.  Do you still have that Bio-Titan from Ebay for me (the one from late last year?)

The GW 'Nid release is very anxiously awaited...

I have a notion to build Chines and Japanese forces in the near future using GZG and Irregular forces from my stores...

Irregular sci-fi minis are a bit crude so... Chinese.

GZG look a bit high-tech so... Japanese.

Sounds like a great plan.  I still dont have a Mk IV or VI...  When I was last in the US they were out of production.  Since then its been a back shelf project.

WW2 Microarmour is cool.

That just reminded me of the LARGE collection of mdoern microarmour I have.  Full German, French, Poloish and Russian Mech/Armour Brigades with attack helos...all sitting opened in packets  :{

Thanks for the offer of the GHQ minis, but they are about 1/2400-1/3000 sclae, I'm using 1/6000

Enjoy opening and repacking your boxes mate!  :D

Hum, kind of like that title. Master of the Ongoing Projects. ????

May have to add that to my signature. OK added it, but now I am not so sure who the real Master of stuff is. Tas just listed quite a few more then I have going.

All jokes aside, about a year ago I started to clean out my stuff slowly. Either get stuff painted and game ready or dump it. I cleared out whole scales.

28mm/30mm stuff is all gone other then some D&D minis for RPGs and one full company of NAC troops (true 25mm) from Stargrunt. That included eight 40k armies. If anyone is interested in a trade, let me know.

All my small ships are gone as is my whole fleet of BFG.

My 15mm Napolionic army is now 100% painted minis.

My 15mm Colonials are about half painted. Have many British to finish. All of my American Spanish American War minis are painted.

My Epic is now 75% painted and growing. :;):

My 15mm SciFi just went through a growth spirt so the painted and table ready dropped from 95% to about 70%.

The newest area, the Monsters really has not taken off too much. I am waiting rules and some Monsters I ordered. Lucky for me, the monsters come prepainted.

My Old Heavy Gear just got stripped because the paint was so bad, so it is back to 0% painted. (Not true, one Grizzly and two tanks are still painted, but you know what I mean)

I have cleared out a large number of my Ogre minis and the remaining is 100% painted.

The largest number of "projects" now is my terrain. Less then 20% is painted. Th erest needs to be painted and finalized.

So in some ways, I am getting smaller number of areas and larger collections within those areas.

:;):

Ummm...that reminds me.  I have large 15mm Colonial and Zulu Armies as well: all painted though, and with a Kraal too.  Havent seen the light of day froper for about 10 years though.

I understand what you re aying there Dafrca, and to some extet I agree with you about getting stuff painte and used.  But I really LIKE have a diversity of figures and games.  I can be very fickle and move between genres 4, 6, 12 or 30 times a year depending on what Ive just seen or read.  Especially now I'm doing unusual and Pulp style gaming with the kids as well.

Epic is probaly my biggest (by bulk) collection of stuff, but I couldn't get rid of most everything else.  :oo

Oh I am not saying sell off everything. I am just saying I have just cleared dead wood so to speak.

I will take a few pictures and you will see, I do not have any problem keeping stuff. I just was saying, for me, it came to a point where I either clean out some stuff or rent an apartment for my game stuff.  :p

Hi Guys,

I know how you feel...

My great purge came a number fo years ago when I switched to 6mm... never been the same since...

The scale limitation keeps me focussed. 95% of my energy, funds, resources, etc. goes to small scale stuff or stuff supporting my small scale troops.

I may have a new purge soon anyway.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Have not done much with my Lock 'N Load or Mayfair's Hammer's Slammers !  Been concentrating on Epic (armies and terrain) !  Spend almost all my "hobby" free time on Epic !  With 9+ Armies, various terrain/planet sets, I'm always busy ! :D

One day L4 you are going to:

1) List all your Epic Stuff for us to be amazed at
2) Take photos for us to gawk at, and
3) Meet me for some games, and we'll use all 9 in turn!

:D

OK, just to REALLY annoy me, Ive had a sudden inspiration after talking about DBA and Dino-Wars on Maksim's Blog...

How about DBE - De Bellis Epicanus?

Work with me here for a moment:

DBA is designed to be a fastplay game which give each side EXACTLY 12 stands of troops and you play (in 15mm anyway) on a 2 x 2foot board. ?No smaller, no bigger.

Armies are based on their historical ratios of troop types. ?A typical English Medieval Army therefore has (off the top of my head) 2-3 stands of knights, 4-6 stands of archers, some basic foottroops and maybe an artillery piece for later periods. ?In contrast the Medieval French Army has (again off thetop of my head) 5-6 stands of Knights, some crossbowmen, peasants and maybe an artillery piece. ?Each army list has options for you to specifically take things, but keep the generic ratiosn. ?The English cannot take all knights or all archers for example. ?Knights can also be taken dismounted or on horseback as the player desires. ?One stand is designated the Army's General (or king or whatever- the boss).

You arrange terrain in a rather methodical and structured way (the type and number of which are representative of the opposing troop types) and you have at it. ?First player to eliminate 4 opposing stands OR the enemy General wins.

This popular system, once understood, is very quick play and games usually last less than an hour once underway. ?There have been adaptations for many periods, including Napoleonic, Colonial and WW1/2 (and now Dinosaurs too!)

Now couldnt that methodology be applied equally well to Epic?

Imagine playing a game in less than an hour, using proper tactics?
Armies that dont have to be MASSIVE - less time painting to have them ready.

Have I gone insane and burrowed down a pointless rabbit-hole or has this idea got merit??? :O
