We had to sit in a foxhole and have a M60 run over us ! And then pop up with an expended LAW and practice firing at it's rear hull onced it passed ! ?Very Cool ! ?Glad we never had that happen except in training ! ? :D

Even though you knew it was training, did you feel the fear when it went over?

I bet I would have.  :;):

I was young and foolish and looking for a military adventure !  I was a brand new 2LT going to the 101 !  I don't know if I ever was really scared Just was real busy doing my job ... and in most cases having a good time !  But even today ... most think I'm a (little) crazy ... :;):

Back when I was in the army we had the same kind of excercise except they had us lie in the ground and the tank drove (slowly) over us. Of course, beforehand we had been told nice stories about how tankers like to reach out from the floor escape hatch and grab the combat webbing of those doing the excercise...  :)

I was more scared when we were playing tank escort and had to sit on the engine deck while it drove through some kind of tank obstacle course. There was precious little to hold on and I was scared of falling off.

I had a vaguely similar experience on the back of stagecoach with 4 horse team. It was all pretty laid back until it charged down a hill and through a bumpy creek bed. I thought I was a goner - high on the back of this thing with nothing to hold onto and no seatbelts  :O

I also crashed a horse and cart I was driving into a house that same day. I lazily assumed the horse would know what it was doing as we came into the town on the same road it had used many times before. Nope, horses are dumb (or at least this one was   ).

Nothing sounds the same, that is for sure.

That is so true. I love the sound of those huge radial engines. The sound of the big in-lines is pretty sweet, too. ?

To each his own, I guess. Me, the sound of tank engine & tracks is the thing.

Spoken like a true treadhead!  :D Actually, I do like that sound too.

After being in 3 Mech Bns and Commanding a Mech Co., I can say that being around big heavy AFVs was a "unique" experience ... :D

I think the biggest tank I've ever seen in person is an Easy 8, probably Korean era since it has a muzzle brake.

Hi!

I went to the Aberdeen tank museum once, its very humbling to stand aside of all the tanks of legend. Some are very big things....

Yep, saw an Easy 8 in Germany at US Post/Kaserne. Called "Warhawk", which was my Co.Callsign ...  And I was at Aberdeen when I was a Cadet. Very cool to see many of the WWI & II AFVs, I read about !      As a Grunt worked with M60s, M1s and Leopards to name a few ... They are BIG !  :D  And T54/55s that the IDF captured and made it to the US Army for intell !

I have had the misfortune of being run over by a Leopard. Similar circumstances to L4, except I had already taken the shot with an 84mm Carl Gustav. It was a training activity and the young LT decided he would get his own back by chasing me with the tank. I fell in a gun pit and it went strainght over the top. I didn't have to punch the kid, his LCPL loader did it for me. I was a lowly TPR in those days. There is nothing like the sound of a tank, the noise, the vibration and the fear. I was an M113 ambulance commander for a while and once evaced two staff cadets who where a little traumatised after a mate of mine ran over their pit.

Cheers

You just can't have a bad time playing with AFVs !!! :D After commanding a Mech Co. of M113s for 18 months and before that, having an M577 CMD Track in the ROK ... It was fun, but the downside is "Catering to the Iron Monster".  Maintenance !!!!  I was also "blessed" with being a BN then BDE Maint. Officer !  The Bde Cdr rewarded me with more work !  :D

As many of you know, I attended an epic tourney last weekend. Although it wasn't as well attended as we had hoped, it did give us (Moscovian, Suvarov and me) an opportunity to play a 51,000 point game that I'll not soon forget.  :D What an experience! On Sunday I played a standard tournament game with Suvarov, my AMTL versus his IG. Although I lost, it was an enjoyable game that could have gone either way. Although I'm still on the steep part of the learning curve, I feel more comfortable with actual game mechanics and can now concentrate more on honing my tactical and strategic  skills.

Now that that's over, I can prepare for a game of SM2 tomorrow with my nephew. It'll be a 5,000 point game and I haven't decided yet what I'm going to take. I'm leaning towards an all Squat army, but I'm also thinking about taking Ultramarines with Titan allies.

After tomorrow, I can finally get back to painting and working on my alternate critical hit tables. I'm almost finished with completing all my WIPs (3 Razorbacks and 3 Titan weapons) and can move on to new things, which should include terrain and Squats.

51k points?  is that total, or per-side?  :O

Either way, that's a bajillion guys on the table!  Please tell us that you have pics!

Oh, and L4, why do you think that the military phrase is "I award you the following punishment:"?
