Indeed.
Maksim: I apologize if my poor chioce of words offended you in any way. What I meant to say was just that I personally don't have any emotioinal connections to these events in the past. -Perhaps because of my age, perhaps because of the society in which I was brought up. To me these are just names of historical persons who comitted attrocities on a scale beyond comprehention of anyone who was not there. It is very difficult to understand because it happened in a world which was much different than the one I've been brought up in.
I have full understanding for people for whom these matters are still a very touchy and emotional subjectand would like to stress that I did not mean to sat that the past was insignificant or meant to be forgotten in any way. Just that it can be difficult to comprehend so long after. ?
But, as Primarch said: Lets move on to more cheerfull subjects.
Cheers! ?

At 35 I didn't know who Torquemada was either...
Actually I didn't know how old I was either as I wrote that... I was going to write 32, but I haven't been 32 for ages...

Quote (primarch @ 14 2004 Oct.,07:27) | As for GW or any game company using offensive names or terms, the sad truth is they know most of the time they can get away with it. Mainly because they know their target audience is insensible to these issues (In GW's case 12-14 may not even KNOW who Torquemada is....). | I think you have hit the head of the nail. Most of the "real" names they use are not the real easy ones for an average 12-14 year old to know.
If you had asked me who Hitler was at 12 I would have known. But if you ask me who Cromwell was and why do most Irish curse his name I would have not even know there was a guy named Cromwell. Yet today, everytime his name is said my Irish inlaws curse him.

Very True, and also full of good things. We could also get very deep into the 'duality of man' and good vs evil philosophial discussions, but I'd just like to say that as long as there is Epic, then there will also be Goodness!

dafrca | I probably shouldn't ask but... who is he? And is he the same guy the people on the other island named a Tank after?
And to be fair, GW isn't by any means the only one to "trademark" names like that. The media nowadays is full of shocking images; the idea seems to be that disgusting sells. And unfortunately it does; Marilyn Manson comes to mind as do certain computer games and bands.
Ok, just had to say that. I'm not _defending_ GW for the simple reason that if someone steals it doesn't give me the right to steal as well. Merely pointing out that things like that seem unfortunately to be the trend today.

Cromwell was the person who got King Charles I to lose his head...
English Civil War, Parliamentarians versus Royalists, and all that.

No wonder I didn't regognize him. English Civil War is unfortunately an unknown chapter of world history to me.
