I vote for the Cult. Nothing keeps you going like new and exiting stuff that very few people have done before. Just think of all the cool conversion and painting opportunities.

Many thanks guys. I really appreciate the input.

I have decided to go with the Genestealer Cult. May be controversial, but it should keep my interest and enthusiasm and allow me to get somewhere.

The whole 'two projects at the paint station' rule is something that I would really like to stick to... but is already under fire - maybe a Tau formation will be my 'second project', or my original Eldar formation, or some of the Squats... Must... stay... strong...

My lack of focus when it comes to painting is well documented here - just do a search for posts from me in any of the painting boards!

My initial ideas for the Hybrids are to use the claws from Hormagaunts. They should look OK, dont involve cutting up precious Purestrains, and you get as many on a sprue. I will need to check this out when it comes to the little guys. First will probably be some basic Brood Brothers.

My second project will change around. I have not picked the more obvious Tau as I want to be able to spend more time on them. The Cult suits my current style of painting, ie sloppy. I will, however, be creating formations of Eldar, Tau and Squats alongside the Cult minis... and some Gothic stuff, and some fantasy units, and...

OK. Now to formulate a plan of attack.

My first job will be to give my Cult list a read through, and work out what any major changes would be for the next version. In parallel to that, I want to make sure that I have the minis for my next Eldar campaign game assembled (but not necessarily painted) so that they are ready to play as soon as I have the space to set them up. These are my first two tasks.

I will, clearly, update you soon.

Thanks.

Excellent, C/S!  Looking forward to debating over the 'Stealer Cultist list.  When I do mine, the actual 'Cultists' will double as the Cultists/Traitors in a planned L&tD army - but that leaves the 'Stealer bit of it: Purestrains, 2nd & 3rd Gen Hybrids, Magus (Magi???) & Patriarchs.

PS if you need a mini for a Patriarch, I have a 'Stealer familiar spare, PM if you're interested :D

Well, I did say that this project wouldnt be so speedy! OK, my progress to date has been purely planning.

Epic Armageddon Genestealer Cult

I have been going through the old list, and collecting together all of the various comments and ideas that I have got through email, forums and other places. One of the reasons that a standard Brood Brother formation will be first (aside from my belief that the you should always start with some core infantry) is because it is a fairly standard setup.

A couple of questions to you guys:

Bases - does anyone know any good Epic bases? I would like something a bit more varied and interesting than standard Epic, like Warmaster bases, but I dont want to have to cut down the discs that the minis are standing on for each one! DRM had some good ones, but I dont think that they are released yet. Any ideas?

Characters - the only issue with the force list is that of characters. Each formation can take up to three upgrades. Under the old system, a fourth generation leader was one, and rogue psykers was another. But, this takes two of the three upgrades for no real change to the formation. Take transports and that is all that you can get! The new list currently has these two options in the same upgrade to still leave two upgrades possible. Any comments or ideas about this? I could just make these characters 'standard' upgrades, not taking up an upgrade slot. What do you think?

Hellhounds - there is an upgrade to take Hellhounds and add them to the formation. I like this. Under the old scheme, there were ten brood brother units, and you could add two Hellhounds. Now, there are twelve brood brother units and the option is to add three Hellhounds.

Alternative Project - Epic Eldar

For my initial alternative project, I have decided to assemble (not undercoat, paint or anything else!) the units required for my next Epic campaign game (Eldar).

I just wanted to check from those who 'know', is this the definitive and 'almost certain to be accepted' list of changes?

Thanks.

Thanks for keeping this project alive.

I think that this force has wonderful character and I hope to build one sometime in the far off future.

I credit you with a large part of keeping this alive.

One, bases shouldn't cost alot.

I've decided that when I run out of my current set of Epic palstic bases, I'm going over to 15mmx40mm bases... easy to get ahold of at an inexpensive price.

Litko makes them using thin woods 0.8mm to 1.5mm to 3mm thickness.

Thin steel bases (18 gauge to 24 gauge) can be found to glue under them to make your stands magnetic-storable.

Between those (15mmx40mm), the Warmaster standard (20mmx40mm) and assorted fender washers, I'm happy. That should cover most projects I'd want to do.

And, just so you know, the Epic infantry circle is 1/8" inch so any power drill can make appropriately sized holes in any drillable material.

There used to be an article at Net-Epic about that.

DRM and EW bases are nice, but I hate to pay good money for bases when a bit of cheap wood or plastic will do since I usually texture bases anyway.

I'd rather send money on minis than bases.

I'm not sure about this.

Well...when I ran out of plastic GW bases, I turned to popsicle sticks, cut to size.  Works alright for me... and you can't beat the price!  :p
