does anyone have any experience with magnetized bases? as in for movement trays. ive been toying with the idea for a while for my epic hordes and fantasy army, but dont know where to go with it. would magnetic sheting be the best option or would magnet to magnet be better?

I believe that magnetic sheet-to-steel is the best way.  I believe that Gale Force 9 has some flexible steel sheets (steel powder in rubber, I think) that you could use.

GF9 also has a magnetic basing system for Flames of War that you might be able to borrow.

My Marine SC uses a small disc magnet so I can choose what type of unit he's with.

It works very well (Certainly far better than sheeting would, which I use for Fantasy regiments), but I should think that sheeting would work fine if it was just for transport.

I've heard magnets are great for transporting epic infantry. Magnetic sheet fixed at the bottom of the container and steel paper strip at the bottom of infantry bases work wonders.

I have no experience of my own mind you (I herdly ever get to game so there's no need to move my armies) but this tip I have heard from several diferent sources so there must be something to it.

That's what one of my regular opponents uses for storage/transport.

He uses a thin sheet of plywood with strips of 1x1 on each end so he can stack them and a magnetic sheet glued in the middle.

Personally, I prefer tackle boxes.  Most models are lightweight enough that bumping together won't chip them (especially if you use a varnish coat) and for the ones that are heavy a thin sheet of foam is enough to prevent it.  I usually just use the foam from the blister packs.

That said, if you mean "movement trays" in the sense it is normally used of moving units on the board (as opposed to storage/transport), I think it's probably a bad idea for Epic.

I think there never were any epic scale plague marines.

There were Khorne Berserkers, though, in the Epic40k Chaos sprue.

In the original Sm2 era chaos wasnt there a marine type for each power?  Not that anyone ever used them as such, but i always thought the one with the big horns and tilted head was meant to be nurgle....

Yes. The original plastic sprues had five types of Marine (and a launcher) - roughly workable to undivided and the four powers. However, they were not so themed that they would look strange in any force with the correct colours.

Dave,

FYI I have way more Orks than I could ever use.  When I get out there you and I can sit down, see what you have, and we'll work something out.  And for the models I can't possibly part with, they will always be available on loaner.

Best thing you can do for me is to keep on asking questions on the forum.  The more you understand, the less time we have to spend learning and the more time we have to play!  :D

I told my wife there's an Epic player in Allentown.  She just rolled her eyes and said, "I guess there is no escaping this game."  :p

The wide-horned SM era CSM is Slaanesh.

The one with narrow, serrated horns and an eye in the middle of the forehead is Nurgle.

Pics are available at Epicollector.

As CS said, I think almost no one ever fielded them that way exclusively in the distant past, though I have seen some in the past few years.

Yes, I suppose I could.  It is a good thing - I can now justify getting the house with the large basement for gaming.

i likewise told the rest of my group that i found an epic player and 3 of the guys nearly crapped their pants. epic is unknown around here and they were suprised when i even brought up picking up a force.

@ moscovian, as far as trading for ork stuff, my list looks pretty solid, but i will look at what you have before i make any more purchases. i do need a few more smaller gargants, a supa stompa, more stompas, a landa and some bommas.

im looking forward to you comming to PA. a basement to play would be nice, i have a garage that suits our group when the local store is booked for events.

back to topic, so using normal marines as deathguard would be a legit thing than?
