Quote (CyberShadow @ 08 May 2006 (08:34)) | Quote (Warmaster Nice @ 08 May 2006 (11:36)) | Maybe I'm just a weirdo but I'm not really all that impressed with the Character packs. Don't get me wrong: They're nice models. However there's very little there which you couldn't do yourself through conversions of existing models. Some of the characters strike me as downright bad. Commisar Yarrick in particular. I guess the thing is that they're all basically conversions of existing models but not really original sculpts like the models on the E40k plastic spures. |
I agree with this. I like to convert my characters, since there are (by definition) not so many of them. | And for those of us who lack the skills of some of you?
The Character Packs are our god send.

I love the Ragnorak tanks - they're so chunky!
Also the Siegfrieds are cool too.

Hmmm... I guess my fave would be the Valkyries. Nice models.
Is it me, or did the whole range put on considerable weight during the resculpting process, particularly the Leman Russ and Chimera sculpts? Time for those things to get some Jenny Craig action -- they're much chunkier than their predecessors. Not to mention, I prefer my sculpts clean, not all crappified with stuff the way the newest IG vehicles seem to be. It's like the 40K purity seal problem, in miniature.

If you look at the width of minis without the baggage.
The Leman Russ is slightly larger then the first sculpt, but that was Ok with me as it was right in line with the second sculpts and that is what I have the most of.
Overall, I did not think there was much of a sculpt size creep as compaired with the first edition stuff and the later editions.
Want to see some scale creep look at the first Marines and the newest marines. Man what a differance.

Hi!
I agree, the character packs are the one I was most enthused to get.

Well what should I say? Well I like almost everthing that Imperial Guard has in its ranks! From the tiniest Ratling Sniper to Gargantuant Imperator. More I've painted my models more I like them.
That reminds me of that I should order around 5 more Imperial Guard Infantry Boxes to fullfill my vision! Oh those glory ranks of nice red Coated Militias and Black Leather Jacket wearing mean Special Forces.

I'm a fan of the new Engines of Vaul. The Revenants are good, too, but the EoVs are perfect (IMNSHO).
