the food can be shaped into whatever you need, then cooked/baked/saut?`d whatever the recipe is...

Very big Popcorns might make good Defilers. ..And tasty ones too! :D

I think a seafood buffet would make an excellent Tyranid army...

A raw rotten steak might become a nice nurgle scenery piece like a toxic swamp. As long as you do not care for the smell and the stain in your table/miniatures, that is.

Actually, to use real food-as-model references, there have been several suggestions related to using various seeds for Tyranid models - Synapse Nodes, Mycetic Spores, etc..
