Hi!
Its related to post counts. Every certain number you get one and I beleive when you do your rank name (the title under your alias) also changes.
You acrue them fairly rapidly at the beginning, you'll have 4 around 2000 posts. I have had 6 since 5000 posts. I assume the next one is at 10,000.

Thanks, P! I had already noticed the change in rank, but I hadn't figured out the relation to the number of balls.
