Quote (Pariah Press @ 23 2004 June,01:30) | Video games are horrendously expensive to develop compared to GW's usual fare. ?I'm surprised we've seen as many GW-based games as we already have, though presumably most of them were merely licensed. ?(Hugs his copy of Final Liberation.) | Most of the Games that use "Known Game Brands" are licensed out. That is also why you see a few fail. WotC has been stung a few times by that bug.

i think people here are maybe a bit too much GW auto-bashing oriented. The real thing is that the game developper lied to GW and stole us the whole investment. GW was confident in them, and most of what have been showed was fakes and lies from Climax limited, whojust ttricked GW into giving money to produce nothing but air. The truth is that the game was trainee produced bullshit with some illusory cover cast upon it.
You can read here and there some hints about the real story.
The whole thing have become more apparent at E3, where there was about nothing real to show about the game, less than a year prior to release. The whole affair is a sad thing, even if i'm not a MMORPG fan and not too interested in Warhammer Fantasy universe.
Many people seem to have been expecting that (i was personally not following the project, i discovered this recently); apprently what was shown about the game always was very few materials, many became suspicious for quite some time now.
At least, the real stuff for 40K universe people (i suppose, us, for example) is Wharammer 40K dawn of war, and it seems like it'll be the first successfully made GW licensed game for a loooong time (the last and only i remember was Space Hulk. Do you guys remember this one ?). The fact they choosed a real development studio, that have some solid references and are Wh40K fans aside this (Relics; those guy behind Homeworld and HW2, impossible creatures...) Makes me quite more confident in its success.
It's allready been one of the contender for the "best strategy game of the year" at E3, and even if Rome Total war won the prize, it's way more significative than 2-3 screenshot and a handfull of naive teasing lines in WD news.

I can pretty well see how one may end with just those two games Space Hulk was also my first GW game, and while i sold it many years ago (how foolish !), i still have quite some fond memory of it, and i plan to make it again from epic minis (wouldn't it be a nice wedding ? a complete space hulk game you can carry anywhere...), since i got a copy of the original rules (i of course am speaking about the first edition here ). But there, i was speaking about the computer game space hulk, which hit the schelves somewhere like in 93 or something like that. I'm not sure about that date however. It was quite a good adaptation of the board game, and it receive great acclamations from the critic. I don't know if it's still possible to find it currently. Probably. other GW adaptation i played, like "final liberation", were quite bad video game IMHO, even if they took place in my favorite Sci-Fi universe. I must confess, however, that i forgot about "Dark Omens" which was a quite good strategy game, if not best seller, in the Wh Fantasy universe. Have you guys (i'm adressing those that play Computer games here) seen the videos and Screenshots about "Dawn of War" ? it's looking pretty damn like a $#!;ing good game allready, and there's still some finalisation from now to the release... I'm quite impatient about this one. There's news and link to videos and screenshots here.

Well I spend all my "free time", collecting, painting, organizing, etc. Epic G/W-S/G & F/W. So I really just don't have the time or interest for other stuff. But I do have a White Dwarf sub, so I see what else is going on with G/W !

Quote (Markconz @ 28 2004 June,00:48) | It was especially tense near the end when close combat against genestealers was practically unavoidable... there was some technique to it apparently... but I tended to just panic and hit random power fist swings as quickly as possible!! ? | Me too. That only works if you are female...
... whats that, a dumb fighting game? I dont like those. OK, I'll play.... *the sound of keypad being slammed while I try the complex special fighting moves*... And 30 seconds later I am completely beaten.
Was that the game (Space Hulk) with the voice of Jervis...?

Yes....you beat me to it stormseer.... in the latest issue of PcGamer, there is an interview with Climax. They say they are committed to releasing the game, and that the breakoff with GW was simply GW not willing to put up the money for further development. GW is still involved in the creative process, they are simply not going to put in any more money. How much of this is 'spin' and how much is truth remains to be seen.
my 2cents,
