What I find baffling is that I can't even get Epic stuff in my local hobby shop. It's been a "Chapter Approved" independant store for years now. I shop online sometimes, but I vastly prefer to support local retailers when possible. I'm sure that I would have bought some of the new Epic releases by now if I had the chance to "impulse buy" them. How could I resist them if they were sitting right in front of me, beconning seductively? Appealing to the 13-15 crowd is what the big comic book publishers have been doing for the last few decades, and they've been in a slow decline for ages now. I would hate to see GW, a company that I've supported for years now, go the same way.

Hi!
As I have pointed out for nearly two years, fanatic games, more specifically epic gets a rough, rough deal from GWUS.
First, they remember the money lost on epic 40k. Make no mistake GW is like an elephant when it comes to impopular lines, look at what happened to the squats...
Second, no offering fanatic games to independent retailers through the standard GW distribution channel AND at a severly reduced discount effectively send the message of "dont bother with this product". The brick and mortar overhead and operation expenses make prohibitve to sell or support a product with a proported 20% discount. Add that to no internet sales of fanatic items (who could sell such items with low discount) and you have very little exposure.
Third, given the little "problem" they have now it doen not take much know-how to predict that fanatic game support will be even less now that they have to deal with fixing the current problem.
All in all not the greatest outlook for epic in the US.
Europe will be able to "carry" GWUS for a while, but it better be short since they are not a company on the scale of Hasbro or other large multi-nationals.
Perhaps, if they choose to, they will realize that regional marketing differs from different part of the world and make a system that takes advantages of the US markets "quirks" instead of forcing models from other markets on the US customer.

I hope so. That extra 20% remaining in my local economy is good for my city. If things get too bad around here, I'll have to stay inside and play wargames all day as a form of escape!

I agree, Primarch, the GW corporate policy of 'one marketing philosophy for all' is not good buisiness, at least in the US.

Hi!
Lets be frank, US gamers are "cost concious". Or in lay terms cheap. We like quality for less and less and dont care how it gets that way as long as its cheap. Thats why we've created juggernauts (some would say monsters) like walmart. We'll look the other way at your corporate practices if you give us what we want cheap.
GW, however wants to give us what we want on their terms. Sorry that doesn't float in the US. They are learning the hard way that if choices are restricted or forced people will move to other games - gladly!
In my belief these corporate stores GW wants to push so badly are not the way to go. Its IMPOSSIBLE for them to get enough stores into the continental US to saturate it. The US is geographically a wee bit larger than the UK, so the same tactic wont work. They should exploit the independent stores to do that work for them, saving the cost of maintaining these GW only stores and pumping it into more marketing and getting more stores (online or not) to sell their stuff. A sale at 20% or more of a GW item is still a sale for GW. Better than customers going to oter entertainment, e-bay or other means where GW makes ZERO.
In europe GW may have achieved getting all the profit from manufacturing the product to its sale without need for intermediaries.
But that will NEVER work in the US.
They can learn it the easy way or the hard way...
I guess they choose the long hard route.....

The only outlet (and that's if you know it exists) is to go to the counter and mail order, or go online in your own time.

As I have said before ... I don't think G/W-S/G and F/W are well coordinated (if they talk at all !). ?And they almost compete with each other. ?Both odd and confusing. ?But either way, G/W US will survive, regardless, with only selling WHFB and 40K ...
