I collect Star Wars lego, specifically the sets connected to the original trilogy as opposed to the prequels. Trying to save up some money to get a collectors edition falcon.
Ha you mention Legos and I have to throw in a funny story here. Several years ago, I was shopping in Toys R Us for my nephews and they love Legos, and I saw this Lego Agents theme I never heard of. Amoung other things, it had this tractor trailer set that opened up into a mobile base with a bunch of vehicles, and another set was a bad guy base in a volcano, and I just thought it was the coolest stuff ever. Like, legos how I wished they were when I was a kid.
https://www.google.com/images?q=lego+ag ... d=0CBkQsAQLots of special characters and so forth.
Anyway, I didnt get these for my nephews but I couldnt let go of the idea of getting them for myself. They were pretty pricey at the time. I hadnt even thought of buying myself legos in like over 2 decades. I wuld build a few things with my nephews sets, but that was it. So one day I hear Toys R Us is having a sale, and I decide to stop over and sure enough, that mobile base is for sale, and I went ahead and bought it. It took me like 3 nights to build lol. And then I ran out and bought the Volcano base and submarine set. Once I had it all build though, that was it. I realized whatever imagination I had as a kid, was long gone and I had no interest in playing with them, nor taking them apart to build other things. Eventually I sold them on ebay for about what I paid for them.
So a year later, I am Target or something, and I see Agents 2.0 is out! And in the line is this robot that I am blown away by, and I think to myself, if I still had those other sets, I would buy this. But I didn't so I moved on.
But didnt really. I started looking online for those sets and thats when I was introduced to the insanity of out of production Lego set prices. If you think Epic is bad, you have no idea. I guess there is a huge scalper market for lego sets, and as soon as a set is out of production, it skyrockets in price. So I am looking on Ebay and Amazon and see these ridiculous prices for these sets and just decide to forget it all.
Except I couldnt. Time goes by and every now and then I check ebay for some cheaper sets and see one on buy it now that was already opened and all for cheap, but when I got it, I could see a blind man put the stickers on, and it was terrible. I tried to contact Lego for replacement stickers but they didnt make them anymore. So I realized if I really wanted to do this, I would have to spend the money and get the MIB sets, which would cost me a lot of $$$. I had like 2 years of sets to get (they only made these for 2 years), I think like 15 in all, and a few of them were in the hundreds of dollars range at this point.
So as insane as this is to admit, I went out and bought all of the Lego Agent sets they ever released, MIB, for prices I would rather not admit lol. Well, some I got good deals on, but lets say the a few were beyond logic. Nevertheless, I had to have all of them if I did it, and thats what I did. And what did I do? I assembled them all once, put some in my curio in my office with some other things I have, the rest in their boxes in the closet, and thats it. Havent done anything with them since.
Although people do like checking them out when they see them. Its always a conversation starter. Everyone loves legos.
I've bought some smaller lego sets since, like I keep them in a box for my nephews when they come over incase they need something to do, but beyond that, really havent bought any others since. For whatever reason, that series did it for me lol. And I am still elated to have them, even if I dont do anything with them.
