Its a shame that Epic wont get its Nids back for a long while, but unfortunately hardly surprising.

The Fanatic studio went up to 14 employees at the end of 2004, and at that stage, they were looking at hiring a couple more. Then they were cut drasticly back to about half the size, and the decline continued from there.

Regarding other companies filling the whole - DRM has gribblies on the very near horizon... as soon as our caster catches up in fact, and we manage to find someone who can cast one particularlyl awkward monster. They're not made as Nid Proxies, Doug's decided he definitely wants to continue with DRM cutting its own groove rather than being a proxy company, but there are some units which could be used I guess. More news soon ;)

While there is a short term benefit to making things (for lack of a better word) proxy-able I can understand wanting to make DRM stand on its own.  Who knows, 5 years from now we may be trying to come up with DRM lists to match our Epic armies. :)

I guess Chaos didn't sell all that well then...

Heck, I bought 5 boxes - I've NEVER bought that much new Epic stuff in one go.

From speaking to staff at Warhammer World and at mailorder they were very surprised at just how high the level of demand for the Chaos box was.

Which goes to show you GW has no clue how popular Epic is.

This spring I spent ?300 on Epic, including 5 sets of the new Chaos sprues.

That's more than double what I've spent on their 'mainstream games' this year, both of them combined.

I just hope stuff like that puts a spanner in their projections! :p

I only bought 4 V... now I'm feeling inadequate.

but seriously... "they" miss release dates by years then cancel them, utterly botch marketing the game and then have the utter gall to wonder why it didn't sell like it should have?

*shakes head*

Yep - 5 boxes of chaos bought here, plus Chimeras, and various sprues to make up matching units (see deathwheels.... )

When Epic gets canned again, you can make a killing on ebay with them.  :D

Yeah, I heard also that when (if) SG gets ressurected again, they'll be looking at making a stand-alone company with it's own (realistic) complement of staff. Seems logical enough to me, but I'm not quite sure how that's going to make things better than they are now. Ah, well, here's to hoping.

Just to put a source to that claim, that was me that posted that here on Tac Com, and I heard it direct from Jervis in a conversation we had about six months ago.

Hi!

Canned again.....

...Hmmm....

...and that hasn't already happened...how? :D

Dudes, these aren't "delays" these are just confirmations of what everybody knows... epic was killed by GW.

Until I see a third party company take control of epic (FW or whomever), as a marketable game epic IS dead.

Be patient and hope as I do, epic will rise again with someone who gives a damn at its helm.

Hi!

The key word is "IF".

After this time around i have come to the conclusion that epic will never be a viable sustainable game until GW outsources it to a third party company. I wouldn't mind FW doing it, but would care who, as long as GW (or any wimpy appendage aka Fanatic) doesnt do it.

While I largely agree with you Primarch, I wouldn't say Epic is 'canned'.  Canned to me would mean no epic figures for sale, and no support material hosted by GW.

Right now Epic does have an online presence at GW with downloadable rules and articles, and at least the current Epic range is still for sale.

In addition, Epic and the other Specialist Games still have their own forums at GW, and a link to Epicomms, despite GW killing the forums of all the core games.  Right now Specialist Games is running an Epic competition with an Epic Force as the prize.

In short, yes things are bad, but as a gamer they could actually be much worse in terms of ease of getting figures and rules. Obviously many of us have not been waiting around for GW for some time now (see handbook in my sig) but taking steps ourselves to support the game.

Objectively the only thing really lacking is two figure ranges (completed Chaos range, and Tyranids), and a workable structure for resolving community rules development (being worked on). Everything else is good enough.
