I do not know this man, but everything Tuffskull has said combined with the reports I have read in a few other places makes me wish I did.

This man sounds like he has a lot of class. I would have lost it. He turned the moment into a win by being a good sport and seeing it as a challange.

God bless this man!

I don't know about censorship, but I wish GW would get original.

Using Torquemada's name for GW's Inquisition is in pretty bad taste. Torquemada murdred hundreds upon hundreds of people if not thousands or more.

Very likely, Torquemada murdered many of my relatives.

For me, seeing Torquemada's name is like seeing Hitler's name.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Don't get me started. ?:L

They not only are very unoriginal in so many way, then they have the guile to "Trademark and copyright" historical names and words. Almost as if they think they are the only ones who will know the names and places. ?

OK, enough about them... ?back to our fun.

LOL, No, but it made me laugh :D

Seriously though: I really would have liked to have seen that GD Entry. Sounds amazing by the very description.

With regards to GW and historican/mythological names: Yeah, it's getting a bit silly. I don't have much of a problem with people using names like Torquemada, or even Stalin or Hitler.

After all these are from times long gone and doesn't have impact on my life. However I understand how it might ofend some people and I really think it's bad taste to profit from using these names by trademarking them.

"Hey, buy the new Charles Manson Doll! Now he really stabs! Only $25.99!" ???

Cheers!

I dont have issues about it, but then I'm not affected by it like Maksim.

Lets see what happens when they write fluff about an Imperial Planet suffering from a traitor uprising led by the Heretic Bin-Laden...

???

Hi WMN,

I can understand what you are saying, but some of us come from cultures with institutional memories like Jews in my case.

After all these are from times long gone and doesn't have impact on my life.

Those times weren't so long ago and knowing that your relatives died under subhuman undignified conditions does have an impact on our lives.

---

Don't get me wrong, I'm not mad at you, but I wanted you to understand. :)

And the worst of it is that while I have a thick skin, I don't have much of a choice as to whether to find it offensive or not. It is simply stinky to me, beyond a cognitive level. My "spider sense" for wrong simply tingles when I hear those names... even in context (No dogs named Adolf for me... ).

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

I think this is the crux - they have freely used sensitive names without regard to what consequences there may be.

And then had the gall to "trademark" them? ????

At the end of the day though, almost every culture has a 'demon' from the past. The Jewish people have more than one most admittedly, but trying to not offend anyone would be hard.

Try telling my grandfather's generation about how the Japanese are, or how great the German people are. His reactions are different than many others, because many of his friends "died under subhuman undignified conditions" too. There are numerous other examples.

At the end of the day though, a balance is needed. We can't all walk around on egg-shells, and we shouldn't be blatantly insensitive either.

I would like to think that if I was in Maksim's shoes, I would display the same dignity and sense of balance he does.

Thanks, Tas.

Tas: I would like to think that if I was in Maksim's shoes, I would display the same dignity and sense of balance he does.

I appreciate the sentiments and I try... :)

I do go nuts sometimes at the TMP CA (The Miniatures Page - Current Affairs AKA Politics) forums though... There are still people who succor terrorists and facist mass-murderers in our days and that baffles me after ready lessons like the Holocaust / Shoah... :(

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Hi!

If there is one thing I stay away from on the internet are current affair type discussion. Lets face it, its relatively easy to swing and sling disgusting anti-semintic (or any other "anti" sentiment) from the safety of anonymity. I dont bother with such small minds. Time is precious, I use it here and enjoy myself.

As for GW or any game company using offensive names or terms, the sad truth is they know most of the time they can get away with it. Mainly because they know their target audience is insensible to these issues (In GW's case 12-14 may not even KNOW who Torquemada is....).

The sad truth is that nowadays you really need a tough "outer shell". There's always someone looking for our "tender spots" to poke. Reacting to it is precisely the feedback they want in order to continue to do it.

Personally I give them the cold unrelenting oblivion...

...of ignoring them.
