I do not need to know any more about this person to know they are a gigantic $%#@*&.

I have not heard the exact expression outside the US, however I have heard some Britich say "eat umble pie" in the same context.
The basic idea is that the meat of the crow is not very good and extremely distasteful. Thus eating it would be a bad experiance. So if one had to admit their failures or weeknesses it might be like the experience of eating crow.
But in this case the reality is, a very small minded ass just wanted to lord over Maksim. This was very unprofessional and a failure on the persons part. It is even a larger discrace when you realize they are in HR and should know it was not the time or place for such a discussion.

Yes, I think Daf has it right, "eating crow" is a humbling experience. Had to do it a few times myself.  ?
However in my life experiences, reality can be a "bitter, jagged little pill," we may have to swallow from time to time. I'm wrestling with that now myself... But in the end, just like a soldier who knows what must be done... we all do, what we must do... to get the job done. ?

Strange how HR personnel seem to be alike in every country.  Right in the same group as small bureaucrats and the like (= a bunch of a**holes).
Anyway, congrats to you Maksim, you deserved it (the job, not the crow...). I hope you don't have to interact with the headless head of personnel very often.
