Not even sure if the Canadian HQ is staying open after the warehouse shuts down.

When the hell did that get announced Chroma?

And are we going to be serviced out of the US again? Or back to the UK?

It *hasn't* been announced.

I still got contacts there, who are fairly reliable, and the scuttlebutt was that the warehouse staff got a three week notice of closure for the end of March.

Not sure where Canada will be supplied from after that.  I *do* know that mail orders I've place recently have come from the U.S.

Oh for the love of Pete...

So stores will be expected to pay for shipping and brokerage fees now on top of already high prices.

This could be interesting to say the least... GW was already a marginal line for a lot of the smaller stores due to the price of carrying a reasonable selection.

Mind you if all GW wants to do is supply their own stores strictly in major urban centres and fob the smaller stores business off on mail order I suppose it makes perfect sense.

GW felt comfortable enough to open two retail mall stores here in town based off the sales of the local stores so it's pure speculation on my part but if it's true I'd be willing to bet that the nobs at GW expect to balance the loss of sales with reduced overhead costs.

Now I'm *really* curious to see how this plays out...

In other news, there is a strong rumour of yet another UK price rise at the beginning of this May:

9 pound packs rise to 10 pounds
10 pound packs rise to 12 pounds

I guess that this would affect Epic.
:(

Oi. Their end-game is going to be ugly (which assumes we're not in it right now).

I think that this is probably the overture to the end game... based on the rhetoric there's a ways further down they have to go yet.

I'll also be curious to see how long the suits making the business decisions can last before being held accountable for their decisions.

At some point or another I truly suspect there's simply going to have to be a Stalin style purge of upper management to get any real change as it's painfully obvious that the current lot doesn't seem to "get it" at all.

Games Workshop... including FW & SG... runs at about $15,000 per month gross sales.

Pre-painted miniatures as a category... includes D&D/SW/MWDA/Etc singles as well as packs... also runs at about $15,000 gross per month. And at a 20% higher net profit... and at about 50% less footprint in terms of floor space.

Wow.  I missed this on the first post.  That's very interesting.

That is with the caveat that it's a freaking huge store in a major urban market Neal.

I'm not sure how those numbers would be in smaller retail outlets although I can honestly say theres at least 4 other stores in town that stock the D&D minis versus 1 non-GW retail outlet for the GW figs.

I would be forced to assume that would be typical for elsewhere as well.

Looks like your sources are Grade A intel Chroma.

I had a conversation with the owner of the local store about this and here's the reply I got:

Forgot to get back to you about this. We actually knew this a while ago and orders have been shipping from Dallas for at least a couple of months now. Sales team is still there though. We are indeed reducing inventory on GW. The big pile in the storeroom is the stuff that has been ready to go for a month now but they have not finished authorizing the return and seem to be stalling somewhat. Could all be related.

My Friend Who Runs a shop here in BC says he is going to actually reduce his inventory on GW stuff. As it sits he has full on 40k and WFB but no specialist, he is cutting back and actually will limit the armies he will have in stock, Reason, higher sales in other product, specifically Star wars, heroclix, FOW, Warmachine, etc, etc..... The core GW players have either Moved away (ie me) or are frustrated with GW and seeking alternatives. Also look at the merchandising GW is trying to get into MMORPG, PC games, etc.... Guess things have to be cut...sigh...i miss the golden age, plentiful cheap minis, lotsa great players, a great magazine....... those were the days.

I had a long talk with a friend of mine that runs a game store Saturday night.  He has some GW stock but has stopped doing anything but specail orders and no longer even has an account with them.  He orders any GW stuff through Alliance (I think).

According to him, the guys he knows from the game industry bulletin boards are largely getting out of GW.  He started bailing on GW about 2 years ago and basically told them to take a flying leap a little over a year ago.  While he didn't give details, he apparently had quite the conflict with their regional support guys and ended the relationship on very bad terms.

He was quite surprised to get a call from a GW sales rep a couple weeks ago.  He told them "no" and basically gave the caller down the road about their ridiculous pricing.  The sales buy tried the GW party line "our overall package is better" and Jim just completely hammered him, quoting prices from GW, Privateer, and Confrontation for both individual comparable minis and the entry cost for actually fielding an army.

Needless to say, the GW guy eventually gave up.

I'm pretty much of the opinion that GW proper is in trouble as a company, at least in the US.  I don't think any SG is going to get any support for probably 2 years, and that's only if GW comes to terms with the fact that its business model is trash.
