hehe..that would explain why its the cleanest sailor joke Ive heard for a long time!  :D

No Mojarn, sadly I havent found a copy at less than a ridiculous collector's price.
Its on my permanent list of "in search of" books.  The brief bio I read of him was utterly fascinating.

It's available from publisher for 27.50 ? (45.5462 AUD) +postage, so it's not cheap. However, even though it's softcover it has 254 pages + 48 page pictorial supplement so IMO you get what you pay for.

There's also an English translation of a book about the other pilot who received Mannerheim's cross twice (Hans "hasse" Wind) available from the same publisher: "Ace Eagle - Hasse Wind".  :;):

Guys,

I have recently begun a new gaming project which is revitalising my long dormant need to model, paint and game (though admittedly I have been a bit busy in the last 12 months).

I have been keen to wargame the Vietnam War for many years, though wanted to play at a company level rather than a skirmish level. ?My recent discovey of Flashpoint Miniatures and their great rules and 15mm miniatures has provided the impetus I need (heaven help my wallet!)

I've started a new painting blog for my USMC Rifle Platoon. ?Rather than clog up this place with non SF gaming, I'll just point you there to see what its all about:

Feel free to drop in and leave a message!

cheers!

Any wargaming post is welcomed, and nothing on topic can be called 'clogging up the place'.  :D

Have a look over in BattleComms.

I've updated my frebase coral blog with some pic of my almost completed USMC Rifle platoon.

4 Huey "slicks" have been ordered too, so I'm almost ready to take to the trails and get into the action!

A guy is driving around the back woods of Tennessee and he sees a sign in front of a broken down shanty: "Talking Dog for Sale."?

He rings the bell and the owner appears and tells him the dog is in the back yard.

The guy goes into the back yard and sees a nice looking Labrador retriever sitting there.

"You talk?" he asks.

"Yep," the Lab replies.

After the guy recovers from the shock of hearing a dog talk, he says "So , what's your story?"

The Lab looks up and says, "Well, I discovered that I could talk when I was pretty young. I wanted to help the government, so I told the CIA and they had me sworn into the toughest branch of the armed services ... The United States Marine Corps... You know one of their nicknames is "The Devil Dogs"

In no time at all they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in rooms with spies and world leaders because no one figured a dog would be eavesdropping.

I was one of their most valuable spies for eight years running, but the jetting around really tired me out and I knew I wasn't getting any younger.

So, I decided to settle down. I retired from the Corps (8 dog years is 56 Corps years) and signed up for a job at the airport to do some undercover security, wandering near suspicious characters and listening in."

"I uncovered some incredible dealings and was awarded a batch of medals. I got married, had a mess of puppies, and now I'm just retired."

The guy is amazed. He goes back in and asks the owner what he wants for the dog.

"Ten dollars," the guy says.

"Ten dollars? This dog is amazing! Why on earth are you selling him so cheap?"

"Because he's a liar! He never did any of that crap. He was in the Navy!"

quote of the week:

"It is disgusting to notice the increase in the quantity of coffee used by my subjects, and the amount of money that goes out of the country as a consequence. Everybody is using coffee; this must be prevented. His Majesty was brought up on beer, and so were both his ancestors and officers. Many battles have been fought and won by soldiers nourished on beer, and the King does not believe that coffee-drinking soldiers can be relied upon to endure hardships in case of another war."

- Frederick the Great of Prussia (177
