Hi all, I mentioned that I'm making this over in the 'what are you working on' thread, and here are some pictures....  :)

http://uk.f2.pg.briefcase.yahoo.com/bc.....view=l

This is a project for my A2 D&T course; I'm building the deck myself, painting it, making footpads and drilling it out, and then adding trucks and wheels...

The deck is a sandwich of 3mm Birch ply sheets, stuck with a 2-part resin glass compound, and shaped in a former I built from lots of MDF.

I took the board out of the former yesterday, and I'm currently smoothing it into a nice, exactly rounded shape.

Just added a few new pics showing what it looks like now (there are 2 pages btw).

Cheers, ~G

Ah, composites - now THAT would get my students interested in the stuff. Looks good, Storms, but what's a truck when it's not red and loaded with orks going Waaaaaghhh! ? :O ?And ?'A2 D&T' is ? Design and Tech.?

PS - I like the 3-point bending test improvisation! Nice workshop too - that all yours?
Resin 'sap' - messy stuff!

Looks very interesting Storm ...but I have to second Vanvlak's question: What's it for and how does it work?  (I'm glad he asked first so I won't look as ignorant  :p  :;):  )

Cheers!  :)

Well.... :D

A landboard is very similar to a large skateboard, with big air-filled tyres so you can go over rough ground with it.
They are great for going downhill, on steep mountainbike tracks, that sort of thing.
I ride mine on the flat however, using a powerkite to pull me along nice hard beaches....
Some pics of me with my current board and/or kites here to give you an idea of what it's all about; http://www.kiteatb.co.uk/_gallery/wildcard

D&T is indeed what you think it to be Vanvlak, 'A2' meaning the second part of my A-level qualification.

A truck is the metal axle, baseplate and rubber parts that bolt underneath the deck and to which the wheels attach; sadly my lathe and metalwork skills are not quite up to making a pair from scratch. :D
The workshop is indeed very nice, wish I had half the schools equipment to use here! :;):
The fibreglass resin is nasty stuff, really sticky and very bad for the skin/eyes/everything else- it is incredibly strong and hard when it sets though!
