Good news on the leg front. The hospital in Chelternham said it was torn etc.Off to local Dr again and then to hospital. Looks like I've been on a broken leg for 9 weeks.Wondered why it hurt more than they said Does anyone know what a spiral fracture is? Cheers.

Ouch! I hope it is still salvageable. I'm sure Primarch can answer your question but IIRC there are spirals in some joints. (?)

Isnt a spiral fracture when the break is not through the bone, and runs round and down the length as well? This makes it weak from lots of angles. I may be way off here.

Hi!
If memroy serves the fracture types come from the force and the way it breaks.
A spiral fracture is common in child abuse since they come from rotational force of a twisted arm gone too far.
Simple fractures are a horizontal or diagonal fracture line. Compound fractures are complex fractures where the bone fragments along many lines.
An open fracture is where the skin breaks and the bone is exposed.

Quote (primarch @ 24 2004 Sep.,06:13) | A spiral fracture is common in child abuse since they come from rotational force of a twisted arm gone too far. | When I was young a friend broke his arm, the doctor had a long talk with the parents because it was this kind. When he heard how it was broken (Water Ski accidnet involving being pulled and flipped by the rope) he seemed to relax. My friend never understood what the deal was. Now it makes sense.
