You can, on certain processors, increase the speed at which the processor operates (ie, computations per second). Of course, this does have a certain risk factor to it, since it does void the warranty, and if you do not upgrade or already have premium cooling, you are asking for meltdown! I personally haven't fooled around with it, since I feel that the video card (as long as the processor is adequate, not necessarily the top of the line) is much more important than raw processing speed. You also have to look at the system as a whole, since merely overclocking your processor and throttling the thing through slow or limited RAM or video card is kinda pointless.

Hi!
Xavi, when you buy a processor it runs at a certain "safe" speed. You can increase the "clocked speed" (thus the term overclocking). Old AMD chips were "unlocked" meaning the setting to increase the clock speed were available from you BIOS screen.
The current AMD chips are now locked. Mind you old chips were locked too but there were manual unlocking methods. The current chips are irreversibly locked meaning the blockage is the chip itself, so there is currently no work around.
As iblisdrax pointed out such increase performance has a price and that is HEAT. Higher speed gives more heat thus your cooling system better be up to snuff or your chip may burn out.
Iblisdrax that voodoo PC is absolutely sick!
