Good article chaps. ?At the risk of nit-picking, the first version of the game was "Adeptus Titanicus", not "Titan Legions".
The AT boxed set covered titans alone; the "Space Marine" boxed set added infantry, although the two games were self-contained so you could play games with either version alone. ?The infantry rules had already been trailed in WD for some time before.
The name "Space Marine" was retained for the 2nd edition version (the golden age) also as a boxed set. ?"Titan Legions" was another boxed set for 2nd ed which included the Imperator Titan and Mega-Gargants, again both versions of the game could be played without reference to the other.
Then GW borked the whole thing with third ed "Epic 40,000", which sank without trace.
4th ed "Epic Armageddon"is arguably the best version of the game, but no boxed set and minimal support.

Yes, AT came out first, then Space Marine also known as SM1. Then Space Marine (v.2, known as SM2). Followed by TL. AT and SM1 used the same rules, where SM2 and TL did also. IMO, SM1 was superior to SM2, eventhough SM1 ended up being "? baked" ... I never liked the SM2/TL rules system. At first I didn't like E40K either. But IMO E40K is a better rule system then SM2/TL. And if I didn't say it, we think SM1 is the "Golden Age" of Epic, save for the rules needed some work and the sytem was incomplete when dropped for SM2(we call it the "Beer & Pretzel" age of Epic). Epic:A is by far the best system. But still needs a little work, IMO. I'm leaning towards the DRM rules now ...But again this is just my opinion - always DWWFY !
