That whole sell unpacked thing is wierd. More and more SG is fading away. I had so much energy for E:A when it kicked off, regularly contributed to forums attended the playtest events at Warhammer World, but now...
...whereas before I was ready to play agame of E:A at the drop of a hat now it's too easy to be keen to play another game. I find I'm playing Warmachine or Starship Troopers instead. Yesterday I thought it might be better going back a step to E40K for my epic fix. Ihope JJ hasn't given up the fight but it looks like it's "Goodbye SG I knew thee well".
Cheers Mark

Saving money on packaging by using zip-lock bags instead of blisters is fine. GZG do that for their mail order and it works fine for them.
But selling stuf without even being packed into zip-lock bags??
The only thing that surprises me these days about GW is my lack of surprise at the things they do.... Cheers
James

I talked to the local store manager about it. This guy is an Epic player and as previously noted the store is closing and he is being laid off so he has no particular loyalty about keeping company "secrets."
He doesn't know anything about this rumor and was highly skeptical.

As I've said before, GW's loss is DRM's gain.

He doesn't know anything about this rumor and was highly skeptical. | You need to remember though just how much commonality is there between GW's North American and European operations.
Which is to say none at all.
Their business models are totally different and by some accounts the two divisions don't exactly like each other terribly much.
Given all that I can't see why it would be surprising he'd know about it. He's in a totally different business unit.

I thought you were in Canada?
In any case, if you can verify it from another source, that would be cool (or not cool, but still good info to know).

But we're kind of the odd duck of GW.
Structurally, at least when it comes to business practices and marketing, the Canadian branch of GW is closer to the US side of things.
And while we can get bits orders from either the UK or the US depending on which set of part #s we use most of the figs that are sold here are now produced in the US rather than the UK.
And as I said at the start though, this may very well be Canada specific rather than a company wide decision.

Quote (Heresiarch @ 18 June 2006 (21:00)) | Here's a "laugh" for you all.
My local game store... a 14,000 sq feet store that stocks the entire GW line including SG and some FW... just informed me today that Games Workshop will no longer be selling Specialist Games minitures in blister packs once the existing stock of blisters runs out.
Instead, if a store is actually stupid enough to order them, they get a big ziploc back packed full of their shipment. And I do mean *a* bag.
It's now the stores job to sort, pack and label the miniatures in question. Bloodbowl, Mordenheim, BFG, and Epic... shelf stock sold to retailers just like a bits order would be to a website customer.
And seeing as I've physically seen that the store in question has ?already had to sort and repack their last shipment of SG stuff I can safely say they're neither lying nor exaggerating.
I can also safely presume that SG in Canada at least is now officially off life support and being prepared for burial.
Idjits... | Hi!
I like the analogy..
..ready for burial...
..suiting.
