I'm very surprised, i never heard about them hitting the store. Any ideas on if they are real?

incidentally if they are real this could be time for a 'wet' job by our resident water born otter :) Is there scope for a combined sum of money to purchase one and pay for any replication? :)

I think there is. Otterman is quite good at such 'replication' stuff or at least I think he is.

Just bid on one of those. If any of you (like the mentioned case of Otterman) is good at replication I would have no problems having the model sent to him in case I win the bid!

There is a damned Cad bidding on the whole bunch of 7 models :( I suppose he will rise the stakes quite a bit, so a win is not guaranteed at all.

Cheers,

Xavi

Just FYI, a couple of people were wondering about the authenticity of these models, so I emailed the seller directly. This is the response he gave me (I've also posted this over on Port Maw):

To answer your question, no these are not "recasts". I got these when my roomate worked for GW in Baltimore. Molds were made, and metal was cast, but they had problems with the molds tearing (also in the UK) so they could not finish casting without bad quality models, so it was cancelled.

At that time however, metal was made available for staff to buy pre-release so he was able to get me some for my fleet before they destroyed what stock they already had.
I dont know what the policy in the UK was, so staff there might not have been able to buy any.
I know of several other GW employees (current and former) from the US that have some, but they are the collector type, and don't want to sell them.

From my experiance with GW employees, there are always more unreleased/limited models out there than GW says, since employees used to be able to cast what they want, when they want them.

Its interesting the response I got when I posted these, this is not the first time I've seen them up for sale on Ebay, but I guess they have just been overlooked, or maybe mis-catagorized?

Does anyone have any insight as to why the side-plates are separate pieces?

You can choose between 3 different ones if I'm correct.

Sick.
That's not worth the fuzz.

Well, lost the auction. Not surprising. I was betting $50 at most and it ended up quite higher than that. Tough luck. Maybe we will get one next time :)

Cheers,

Xavi
