Apparently, they were genuine. If you do not use your account for some time, or update it when they ask you to, your account is closed. I am therefore currently out of ebay. I guess the same might have happened to you, R-bane. could this be the case?

Hi Guys,
Don't ever respond to those "verify your account" e-mails.
Just log on and look around E-bay.
I called E-bay and ALL of those E-mails are scams.
Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak.

My getting kicked off was odd, as the stuff ebay sent me said there had been unusual activity on my account, but I couldnt find any when I searched, so they might have been fake.
I suspect you may have hit on something there Vanvlak, because there were some emails about updating...
I dunno, it did kinda suck, and was also very difficult to get a new account. You can use the same name, but not address or email address, which makes it tricky as they seem to cross-reference a little. The only way I could do it was when I moved... If it helps you seem to be able to change the address back once you are signed up (as I did when I moved back home...).
By heck its complicated...

Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak. | True enough, Maksim, but it seems the emails I received did have effect. Mty account WAS terminated.
Going through the ebay website is the thing to do, as you said. the email I was sent is all 'clickable', anywhere on the text, although I refrained from doing so. I took offense to the wording which states that "Due to the suspension of this account, you are prohibited from using eBay in any way. This includes the registering of a new account." As I have always completed all my deals and have only had positive feedback, I found this text a dash offensive. Now I'm usually thickskinned to just about evrything, but an unjustified corporation 'prohibted' notice leaves me Of course, this, as Maksim said, could be an elaborate fraud, in which case, ebay would have any blame. The thing to do would be to try to register again and see what happens.
Anyways, just for info. Cheers all.

Guys -
FWIW, I get one or two 'Phishing' emails (purporting to be from eBay or PayPal) per day! ?
I've learned to just trash them, but if I'm in doubt, I'll forward the email to either "Spoof@ebay.com" or "Spoof@paypal.com" They'll reply and tell you if it's legit or not. To date, I've yet to see a legit one. Another good way to tell - if the email's salutation ("Hello blah") in the text of the email isn't personalized to you, it's probably a spoof.
One last warning on this - the one Phishing email that nearly fooled me recently was a very legit-looking email telling me that somebody has sent me a payment. I didn't recognize the payer nor the amount, but I'm doing enough eBay (buying & selling) that I started to assume that it'd slipped my mind. I nearly used the link in the email... then wised-up and forwarded it to spoof@paypal. Sure enough....Phish!!
So, let's be careful out there... ? ? Larry
