Hey,

I'm not sure if this is the right place but I'm going to try it out. So I used to love painting minis, as I felt I had some skill. I wasn't golden demon champion or anything but I got by.

Several years back I suffered a bad head injury, and as a result lost vision in one eye and became slightly impaired in the other. After the accident I didn't really paint a lot. And the stuff I did paint was no where near as good. Lately I've been sitting down almost every day, but theres so much I'm having trouble with. I've never had lessons before, but I've always been able to develop my skill on my own. Im finding that without my depth perception, it's something I'm having great difficulty with.

I do have hopes though, on a impulse after my accident I ordered a airbrush and compressor. I'm hoping I can learn to use it. If this isn't your thing, but youre still a good teacher please still reply. Of course, mostly I'm looking for assistance with my skill in mini painting. I can pay fairly well (for you art students out there), and I'm thinking of meeting like once a month or bi-weekly? Im open to suggestions. At the end of the day i'm just a normal guy trying to get back to what he loves.

So please hit me up if you think you can help.

Cheers

Man, sorry to hear about your accident. I had a right hand injury when I was 20, and couldnt use it for almost a year. Since I was right handed, I couldnt do a whole lot, and not only did I love painting minis, I also loved building models.

So one day I had enough being bored, and sat down to try and build a little model from Macross. This guy as a matter of fact: http://thumbs.ebaystatic.com/images/g/- ... s-l225.jpg

I had to assemble it, paint it, etc, with one hand. I painted it by standing it in putty and learned to use a brush with my left hand. It wasnt buy any means my best work, but I was stunned how well it came out for its time. And I still have it today.

So where there is a will there is a way.

As far as learning how to paint and airbrush, i recommend YouTube. There are lessons on there for literally everything. I rarely work on any part of my house without looking at a few videos of other people's work before I do anything, and there is a ton of stuff out there on how to paint minis.

Best of luck!

What kind of mini's are you painting, im assuming epic 40k but what faction? I can give you a general idea on how to get a good table top look to it thats rather easy.

Hey

Thanks for your experience KTG17, it's really good to hear that people can overcome their disabilities with determination and practice. I think you're right about just getting started again. I'm sure once I do I'll surprise even myself. I'm sure sometimes I'm being o over critical of my own work, so it's hard to judge.

Last week I started painting my epic 40k Eldar up. Ive been photographing and posting my journey back into painting. The first couple wave serpents I did came out too heavily painted, and over done but the fire prism /fire storms came out remarkably better. I posted the link if you're interested in seeing how I'm doing.

Blindhorizon, im mostly interested in painting epic 40k armies and terrain. I have an Eldar army (I'm currently working on) and a Tau army. The eldar army was purchased used and was based in yellow by the previous owner. I'm trying to touch up the look to lyanden. It was originally a stormwind army, which has become Biel tan. I've considered painting it that scheme but since the army way half done I just stuck with it.

As far as the Tau, im not even sure what color scheme I want to use. To be honest I want to hold off on the tau until I feel confident in my abilities again. They are such a beautiful army! So much pressure!

This all being said it's love to hear any tips, advice, comments or similar circumstances. And of course anyone who can teach me locally!

Cheers
