Hello,

So I've just bought myself a load of models but they didn't come with any bases. There's some really good looking bases on peoples threads on here and I've had a look for some "normal" bases but I don't need enough of them to make it worth getting over £10's worth of them from GW to make use of the free postage.

If someone could point me in the direction of some bases, preferrably something other than the bog standard bases if possibly that'd be great.

I'm getting back into collecting 6mm, my first models were this scale and I've spent the last 14 years painting 28-90mm models and have come back full circle to the smaller models.

Cheers.

If not on eBay ... G/W is the next best choice. I'm toying with the idea of making more my owe in resin ... But you also can PM Otterman ... don't know if he can help ? Also check Exodus Wars and DRM lines ... http://www.exoduswars.com/s?searchKeywo ... ion=submit http://www.darkrealmminiatures.co.uk/st ... php?cat=32

I've been using Evergreen Scale Model's 1/4" Tile lately. Score it on the tile side a couple of times and break them up to the size you need.

If you want to countersink your infantry, stack 10 or so of them together with masking tape and drill holes with a power drill and 1/4" bit. You can then use magnetic adhesive cut to the same size as the base for the bottom.

At Exodus Wars we sell a range of resin and metal bases, but the most cost effective method is the plastic bases sold by Renedra.

I like the 20 x 40 bases Warmaster styled bases for my 6mm. If you want your bases to be pre-countersunk though you are best off getting specialist bases like our metal and resin bases, they cost more but fit EPIC miniatures perfectly.

Dave and Tom beat me to the punch, though I have a slightly different methond for making my own than Dave.

GW bases are either 20mm x 20mm or 40mm x 12mm, 2mm thick, and have 1/4" diameter holes recessed 1mm into the base. Thus a simple but somewhat time comsuming way to make you own bases is out of 1mm/.040" plasticard. I use regular sheets, not tiles, since there's more flexibility in size that way. Say you want to make a 40mm x 12mm base. You cut two panels to size, and use a standard hole punch to put holes in one. I find it useful to clean the holes with a drill bit to ensure good fit. Then glue them together and bevel or round the edges.

You end up with something like this:

As you can see the nice thing about this technique is that you have total control over how you set up your figures.

Edit- sorry about the picture - I'd forgotten it was that blurred.

When I recently ordered a blister pack of Rough Riders from GW they came with some sort of larger flat black bases.

Does anyone know where I can get more of those? Would like to base my DM bikes on such bases but GW does not seem to be selling them.

Are those the Warmaster style referred to in this post?

Any clues?

Ummmm? GW sells them...

But yes though's are the "Warmaster bases" you hear about, there 20mmx40mm. They usually come with GW bikes and Calvary models.

You can also get Warmaster sized bases from Kallistra in packs of fifty for five British.

Be aware that Kallistra's bases have rounded corners. If you don't want that the next cheapest are these guys:

Which are listed as 45mm x 20mm... Is it really that hard to make a plastic rectangle the same size and shape as a Warmaster base?

Two more rows down on the right. No idea what you use the 45x20mm for.
