Hi

Ive been thinking alot about this: some stuff seems to be very sought after, and some is overabundant and cheap.

This is some of my observations so far (based largely on what I myself am looking for at the moment):

(Old, but current) Warhounds and Reavers - reasonably easy to find, prices good, but not dirt cheap

(old) Shadowswords - easy to find, pretty cheap

(old) Baneblades much harder to find, (maybe) more expensive

Most older imperial g metal vehicles - fairly easy to find, often rather expensive

(old) Imperial g infantry - impossible to find, extremely expensive - Ive given up (as you need lots anyway, its not realistic)

Tyranids - easy to find, but very expensive!

Slasher Gargants - hard to find, but maybe not all that expensive (? have hardly seen any, but Ive been looking thats for sure)

(old) Great Gargants - very hard to find, expensive

Mega Gargants - common, not expensive; but no one seems to bid on them anyway

(old) Eldar metal vehicles - quite easy to find, not very expensive

Squats, both metal and plastic - (surprisingly) cheap and common

Sometimes the reasons for the above are obvious, sometimes not - the tyranid bonanza is quite weird for instance.

Do you agree with this? Have you seen anything else thats interesting in this market?

In the old days most Ork players quickly worked out that the Slasher was junk game wise.  Add that to the fact that it was a pretty cruddy model too, it would not surprise me if GW sold comparatively few of them.  That would explain the relative scarcity.

I think there is a glut of Tyranid stuff because the prices are so high...everyone is dusting off their unused stuff to make a motza.

Worth commenting on Slaanesh and Imperial multipart knights being rare and expensive.  In fact, most things released late in the SM2 cycle are both rare and expensive except where they were re-done in E40K/E:A days (e.g. Revenants, Nightwings).  Conversely, most E40K reissues are common and cheap, except the Chaos "super-spiky" vehicles.

In general, I'd say the bum has dropped out of the Epic market....prices are down and so is the amount of listings.

Chaos Stuff is stull expensive.

Try buying a Nurgle engine of war for anything under $20 and you are doing well..

In fact, I have given up. I will make my often and save the cash.

Excellent summary, BCP, and thanks.

My entry would be:

Limited run items (e.g. Exodites, Imperial dropship) - very rare, unobtainable due to Epicollector.

And all this is a biatch for us sitting on parts of armies.
Either dish out and have each grow.
Or hand out and get one grown.

Agreed on the slaanesh and nurgle daemon engines. Also I find the following tends to attract the species known as Crazius Biddus:

- Most imperial knights from 2nd edition - especially the command knights

- Gobsmashas - For some reason I've seen these tend to go for quite a bit above what other ork vehicles tend to go for

- Mk2 tarantulas and rapiers seem to command a respectable price

- All the 2nd edition ork battlewagon variants

Some of consistently cheap stuff:

- The 2nd edition chimera variants - got quite a few of these cheap (the chimerax, chimerro, chimedon variants)

- Squat gear is lower priced (with the exception of the Mk2 landtrain engine and battlecars)

Chaos Androids.  They are worth about 50x their weight in gold and go for anywhere between $0.50 to $1.00 per model.

Jeezuz! You have got to be pulling my leg. Ka-Ching!  ???

Sorry zedmeister that's been my fault. I have all the Gobsmashas I want now so the price should have settled down since.

I can't seem to make myself face the expense of Vanquisher Leman Russ or even normal Leman Russ. What are they freakin' made of, Plutonium?

Eldar Exodites usually go for a ridiculous amount, like over a hundred dollars US for only a handful. And never mind Psy-Titan parts which usually reach the stratosphere.

LOL  :p

If it was down to me we would all be trading in bits of shaped precious metal. None of this paper money promissory note malarkey. Electronic transfer of data?.. I know you are trying to communicate but I have no common ground for meaningful conversation. Can't you all see it's just so the banks keep the precious stuff while they fob us off with the Electronic equivalent of Glass Beads!..

Rant over!

Probably warranted as an unreleased set of models.  However, I got the complete set for $100 even which I considered quite a bargain.  I have extras of the small rider now!  You could also add the unreleased "Eldar X craft" stuff.

I also find the prices paid for Warmongers a bit nutty....it sold new for 25 quid 10 years ago, and the last one I saw went for 7 times that.
