I am starting to come to terms with never playing certain games again and even worse never even taking some models out of the box.

So it seems to raise cash for dull but incredibly expensive things like daughters education (coming from free schooling I almost had a heart attack when I saw the prices) I am getting closer to being able to actually sell some of my models (as opposed to give away or sometimes trade).

A heart wrenching decision but lets be honest. In the next year I am either living in an active conflict zone (Afghanistan or Sudan) or near several (in Ethiopia). That amount of traveling and restrictions etc means its going to be 6mm if I am lucky, forget anything larger.

The window of selling I have will unfortunately be in January, probably the worse time to sell considering the unwanted Christmas gifts.

The stuff to go would most likely be

Fantasy Battle - 1000 or so mostly plastic figs from games like heroquest, advanced hero quest, several copies of battlemasters, random box sets etc. Empire, Chaos, Orks, some duff undead (not the old good stuff).

Copies of Heroquest plus expansions, Advanced heroquest and expansion, components from Battlemasters (the mats I think I promised to Gavin for his WWI air game), components for warhammer quest, random fantasy battle stuff, couple of those cut down games with drop dice lids. Whatever else fantasy i can find.

40k - 1000 or so Orks and grots, several hundred terminators, several hundred 'nids (though necessary stuff for space hulk would be kept), 1000 or so marines, 500 or so 'Guard, assorted tanks, platoon of squats, 100 or so chaos, random eldar, dark eldar and Necrons. Random other stuff.

Spare copies of Space Crusade and expansions, complete 40k second edition, random box sets games, maybe couple of copies of Advanced Space crusade (just maybe CS, those boards are awfully interesting for other games!).

Maybe stuff like Dark future, several sets and metal models, maybe not. Likewise Man O war plus expansions, top game but all the models went missing some years ago and theres no-one to play it against me, with alternatives, paper counters or anything :(

And no, while the prospect of crashing the price of epic by releasing thousands of tanks and 10's of thousands of infantry is 1% appealing, it will happen only after I am dead. Its mine I tell you, all mine!

What I might do though is sell some of the spare sets of AT, Space Marine 1st and 2nd and Epic40k I have.
What I'm keeping for definite (for now) Blood Bowl, Mighty Empires, Space Hulk, Space Crusade, Rogue Trader (plus necessary models), BFG and Epic. Would love to keep Man O War but without the models ... :(

Saying that not sure on BFG - do I really need over 500 spaceships?

As you may have guessed this stuff for sale is 10-20 years old, which may or may not make it more sought after.

What I really want to know is how are the prices for second hand GW as outlined above, especially considering the bulk discounts apocalypse offers and the likely effect of that. I'm keen for maximum profit and I face maximum school fees!

Hey TRC, good to see you back around.

Man that must be a blow to the heart to have to contemplate selling all that lot. I surf ebay a lot so might be in a good position to offer my opinions.

January will be a good time to sell the Ork stuff I'd have thought due to the new 40k Codex coming out around that time.

Complete copies of the old classic games do seem to sell very well still, there is perhaps a greater demand for SciFi games (Space Crusade, Advanced Space Crusade) rather than Fantasy ones (Hero quest, Battle Masters).

With regards to the 40k models termies do tend to go cheap now the plastic ones are around, your looking at around ?1-3 depending on what it is and if it's painted.  I've seen them go as low as ?30 for 10 pro painted..

Marines are so common that only exceptional models will get you decent models.  RT era ones should sell well, but don't expect much (if anything) for plastics from 2nd edition on wards unless they are bundled into squads or well painted.

The squats will do you well no matter when you sell them, however spread them out over a period of time to get better prices.

I've never seen Dark Future selling that well to be honest but a good copy might surprise you.  It's so infrequent that you see them on eBay I'm not sure how many people collect it.

Man O War does exceptionally well for just the rules, I got ?70 for the game and the two expansions, which I'm pretty sure was more than I paid for it new!  Again I was in the situation as you with no one to play and no fleets to play with.

The Battlefleet stuff, well I suspect you don't need 500 ships!  BFG does sell well especially old space fleet stuff from what I've seen.

Personally I try to keep hold of one of every model in a range and duplicates of the ones I know I'd use in a decent sized game.

Some of the older stuff is out of production, but the GW site often has older models in back stock for 2nd/3rd edition 40k and 4-6th edition fantasy battle.

Rogue trader models are often highly sort after e.g. servitors from RT era are now somewhere near ?15-20 each!!

Is there anyone who knows the systems, the relative worth of models, that could help you sell everything over a period of time rather than cramming it all into one month? I know it's a pain, but if you can do them all as individual lots, or groups of models, rather than huge job lots,  you'll get far more money for them.

I'm sure there would be lots of people who would buy stuff from you on here even if it wasn't Epic stuff (who would think of selling Epic stuff anyway!  :D )

You could potentially contact a few eBay sellers and see if they will take job lots off you for a good price, although it won't be as decent as individual sales.

Alternately employ someone (or bribe with cool miniatures!) to sell the models for you and get status updates on all the models that you've provided to them.  Wouldn't be to hard to organise if you have an inventory of all the boxes and models in them, then request ebay auction id's for each model so you can track them.

Best bet is to really look at what you have, decide if your ever going to use them, inventory it all, then sell it to a re seller.  Get rid of the hassles of having to send stuff out, chase the post office, sort out paypal and eBay fees.

Good luck sounds like a mammoth job.
