Ok guys, I have been thinking about this. The issue we have at the moment is the cost of international parcel postage as L4 forecast. In the UK a 'parcel' is anything over 100grams. While we could send a number of 100gm 'letters' around the place, the remaining stuff would still be a 'parcel' and so still expensive to send internationally.

Recent comments suggest people like to rummage, and it also seems best to keep this as a single parcel at the moment from a cost perspective (despite my earlier comments). However this means that the 1st person in a country to receive the package pays a lot more than others. As a rough guide, sending "Waldo" to the USA from the UK is a minimum of £26.20, and I suspect that any international postage will be similar amounts .
As a rough guide, look up "Worldwide Parcel services Ltd", or any other carrier, and use the current dimensions and weight of "Waldo"; 24cm x 18cm x 8cm, 1.00kg.

Perhaps we can find a way to reduce this burden by sharing the cost of any international postage?
I am happy to help out Bertnernie by sharing the cost of posting it to him. (We can discuss the options by PM, and "Waldo" can travel early next week).

How can we resolve this international postage problem in the future?

Really good points Ginger.

Just as an aside regarding international shipping costs. It is actually fairly cheap for me to post overseas. In fact I think anyone outside of the UK will find it easier to post across the pond since your costs went up so much recently.

It has to go over 1kg for it to become expensive for me. It would cost me 13.70 sterling to send a 1kg package to America, at cheapest(shipping, not by air, but standard Czech insurance). Australia would cost about 18.50 Sterling. Yes, this means it will be cheaper for me to post to USA than for Ginger to post to me!

On the other hand recieving a package from outside of the EU can be trickey as they often want to charge me insane customs on packages from outside Europe.

Hopefully this might help the international postage situation a bit. It may mean I need to be moved around in the que. This is only a temporary solution, we do need to keep discussing the problem Ginger has raised when the long distance postage is very expensive.

Ok, Perhaps we should have 2 packages, one for Europe and one for N America. Ill be honest, if its going to be really expensive, then im afraid im out. I hadn't considered the whole customs thing either before "signing up".

I can start a new thread with the European travelling pile of junk if you crazy european types are up for it, ive got plenty of stuff to donate!

Thoughts?

Steve

I have no real problem with post once it gets to America. Atension, who is next on the list lives in CANADA ... then on to me ... the DoomKit who lives in CT, USA ? IIRC ? Either way, we may want to do as Yorkie suggested :

How about we bag up the stuff that people have dibs on and put a label in its little bag with the name of the person who wants them? That way there is no confusion and potential for people to be disappointed?
Plus if it is cheaper for bertnernie to ship to Canada, then lets go with that ? If we are going to keep it in 1 or 2 Waldos ? Regardless ... We have 2 types of buyers here - Rumagers and Point ... I know what I'd like from the box ... as do some others ... But, hey, I've go not problem with someone who likes to rumage ... either ! ;D But again, I do a lot of eBay, etc. and believe me post can grow to be expensive ... and if you noticed it has gone up this year. So a "good deal", may still not be a good deal once the postage is added in ... So ... take it from there. As I said, if paying post is more than the cost of the items would be, if still available on the market ... that is not a good economic practice. Note: I have 2 business degrees, so I'm always trying to stay in the black ! ;) Old habits are hard to break ! ;) ;D :D

Resident of NJ, USA as of five hours ago.

To be honest, I haven't been worried about the cost of postage either to or from. The rummage, the fun community event, just taking part in it strikes me as fun. The minis are just a really sweet bonus. I absolutely fully expect to be in the infinitesimally small minority in that!

Waldo is on the move again.

The PO say this should take 3-5 days, so it should arrive with Bertnernie towards the end of this week or early next week.

So who's the first person US-side to get clobbered with a big postal fee? Atension or Legion? I can chip in a couple extra paypal bananas to help spread out the cost of that first big hit. I rather like this little project and I think it's only fair to try and even things out whenever possible.

Tiny-Tim said he would take the Thunderbricks, though I have left them in the parcel at the moment as this seems to be the basic principle wanted by those who spoke up. (sorry Tim).

Yorkie was unsure because of the postage, and Kyuss wanted to be added again for some of my bits.

A suggestion is that we add the country in brackets after each person, and possibly consider slight shuffling in the order if that means the parcel stays in one country / continent and saves postage (possibly not needed at the moment). The corrected list would read something like this (assuming we find an acceptable solution for the 'international postage' issue, keeping Yorkie in the chain) :-

    bertnernie(Cz) > atension(Can) > L4(US) > Doom Kit(US) > TheDean(US) > Blindhorizen(US) > Yorkie(Cy) > fredmans(Sw) > kyussinchains (Uk) > Tiny-Tim(Uk) ...
