That's no problem. I'd amend the wanted by the 'bricks that if another up the list wants them to take them. I'll survive.

This would have been more fun if it were all blind. knowing whats coming and calling dibs just makes it feel like a trade. Should have just kept the running list of aditions and subtractions on a paper copy in the box of stuff. would have been more exciting.

That is still possible, if everyone else is agreed. Kyuss and I only followed JZ's lead in posting pictures of the contents (which certainly raised people's interest). However, given the costs involved I suspect people would be less likely to pay the postage 'sight unseen', especially for international postage. To keep people interested, the contents need to be known and have some intrinsic value. Once they are known or displayed, it is only natural for people to express their hopes.

To me, the real question is whether people should be able to lay claim to certain items well before the parcel gets to them. TBH some / most have expressed a hope that a given item remains in the parcel, and indeed there has been some gracious behaviour giving up claims.

Do we need to state that wishes expressed for bits are just that, 'wishes' rather than inviolable 'claims'?

Well the only rub with that is if I didn't know what's available I might not have wanted to play ... ^-^ That being said, when Waldo gets to me, I know what I would like from the box, after that I'd be glad to send him out "in the blind" ... 8) I love ya guys, it's embarrassing enough I'm almost 6 decades old and still play with toy soldiers ... :-[ But I'm much too old and too jaded to believe in Santa Claus, The Great Pumpkin, the Easter Bunny, etc. ... and no longer have all your youthful hopes of being surprised ... ::) ;) When I was a Grunt ... the last thing I wanted to be is surprised ... old habits, like me, die hard ... 8) ;) ;D

As far as 'claim' versus 'wish' goes, I'm firmly in the wish camp. I have indicated a desire for certain things but I happen to believe that everybody here is an adult and respectful and generally just cool. I think compromise, cooperation and generally good behavior is the rule rather than the exception, and that 'claiming' something is entirely unnecessary.

Everyone's been discussing things, working with each other and effectively managing a big, vast circular "trade" that I think is just great. It shows trust and maturity that I don't see anywhere else on the intertubes. I'm happy to say that we shouldn't have outright claims, but I'm equally happy that everyone's willing to work with people's wishes and coordinate/cooperate with people on the taking and giving of contents.

If people nab the stuff that I want out of the box before it gets to me, oh well. I won't be -pleased- but I won't flip any tables...

...probably...

...Maybe just a small one.

Good news: The package arrived.

Bad news: The package arrived as 7:40 in the morning and woke my wife up on her day off.

Thank you ginger, I'm looking forward to going through it. Normally the postal service here delivers between 10am and 1pm so I don't know who delivered it, since she went to the door. It was just some guy in a van apparently, and all the postal workers where I live are women.

I will update with pics later today or tomorrow of what I have recieved. Very excited to go through it.

Was it sent Hermes or something? They have rather....interesting delivery persons.

Great news Bertnernie. I am a bit surprised at the way things happened as I used the normal UK Post office services. I can only presume that the fact I used 'tracked delivery' means they employed some form of courier at your end. Please apologise to your wife over this and explain that like the Pony Express slogan said this was because "the post *must* get through".

Oh, and happy rummaging . . . :D

Ginger, don't worry about it. I think there was some courier thing going on, and sometimes the post that is direct from Prague(fast tracked) goes with a van down the country, while the normal mail travels down more slowly in bulk.

She didn't have that much of a problem, so it's all grand.

As to the package. I've taken it out and laid out the whole thing to get an idea of what is what. Out of curiosity, I decided to separate things out into 'called for' and not 'called for'. I thought it might lead to an interesting discussion here.

The stuff to the left of the blue line is still up for grabs. Everything to the right of the blue line has been asked for, sometimes multiple times! The red box is anything I put my name down for. I highlighted this so people don't think I'm trying to blame 'dibs' people, since I'm clearly one of them.

Since the person I am posting to is Atension I will leave it wholly up to him what info is given out before I send it. If he wants to see the pics before everyone else, or if he wants it to be completely blind, I feel like that is his decision.

However to keep things above board, especially since I'm new to 6mm trading, I'll get in touch with Ginger or JimmyZimms (or someone uninvolved?) and ask them if what I am putting in is fair or not.

OK, so a quick update on things.

After taking Sellotape, paper with names and so on off the package I reweighed the whole thing. It now weighs .985kg. I'm trying to keep it at exactly 1kg for shipping to Canada, so before packing it up again I need it to still only weigh about .985kg, so I can add appropriate packing. Unfortunately with this and with the restriction of what is already called for for other people, it may be a bit complicated. I have one item I was going to add weighing 90g, and everything I asked for is 50g total. I'd like to add more than that one thing, but to do that I'd need to take more. I may dip into stuff that has other peoples names on it within reason, but only if people here are ok with it.

So for instance someone says "Actually, I really need that thing" I'll keep away. And if people really want to keep the system of calling for things, I will also not do this.

I know i may be stepping on a lot of feet here, but i figure it's good to open up the discussion on it. Even if people say don't do it for now, and maybe we'll change the system later for someone else, I'd be happy. As it is I wanted to mention this as now that I have the package in my hands I realise how much of this is essentially dead weight for me, since it has been asked for by someone else.

P.S. Our extremely accurate kitchen weighing scales is very useful right now.

You mentioned paper with people's names on it - is that a list of to who and where it's been? If so, that really should stay intact and with the box of happy fun treasure time(tm). Or I'm completely misunderstanding, which is entirely likely.

If you're only taking stuff so other things can be put in, I don't think that's appropriate or in the spirit of the Traveling Pile of Stuff. Likewise, not putting things in because it would increase the weight slightly. If there's items you want to put in the box, then I'd say put it in the box. If we worry about keeping it light and if the contents stay blind - as Ginger already mentioned - it's going to become less and less worthwhile for anyone to commit to this.

Bigger parcel -> More stuff -> More rummage -> More fun -> More interest.

As far as things that are 'claimed' getting taken before they get to the person laying the claim, I've already made my opinions clear. It'd be really nice if it wasn't done, but it's not necessary to adhere to such calls slavishly. So long as items are taken because they'll be used (not sold or traded or taken just to reduce postage cost), and items are given to the box in return, that's pretty much all anyone can reasonably expect.

Ok,

I'd like to take my name off the list. I have stuff happening here and would hate for the package to end up sitting in my Battalion post room for months, as I may be away.

Also money is becoming tight as the "£$* that is renting my house in the UK hasnt paid his rent for 3 months, I thought it would have been resolved by now...but ...well...it isnt.

Anyway, have fun!

Steve
