The seller let him off the hook for only fifteen pounds...
Once the seller saw it going crazy like that, he should have sent each person an email and made it clear. Based on his count, he was just allowing it to climb and did not care why.
I value honest, ethical people, and I have no time for the other kind.

I rarely check my own auctions until I get the email from eBay saying that they are done. I'll answer specific emails I receive as quickly as I can, but otherwise I'm just too busy to sit around and check my auctions for crazy bidding.
I'm all for being honest in my auctions, but I also think I have the right to expect people using eBay to understand what they are bidding on and what the relative value is, too. The auction listed was very clear about what was being sold and nothing was misrepresented in any way by the seller. If the father only has to cough up 15 pounds, he should consider himself lucky and write it up as a lesson learned.

True, he may just allow them to run out, but I strongly doubt it. He has earned 1400 uniques feedback in the last year alone. He has more then 2600 feedback total. He has over 50 auctions running right now. This is a sign of someone who is more then a casual seller. So yes, as someone who does ebay a lot I do expect he is checking his auctions on a regular basis.
An assumption, yes. But one based on dealing with and knowing many people who sell at this level, yes.
The auction listed was very clear about what was being sold and nothing was misrepresented in any way by the seller. |
Please do not put words in my mouth. I did not say the auction was designed to trick someone. But the clearity is not there for anyone who is new to Warhammer 40k and who does not know what Epic is. It may be clear to us, but no I do not expect the world at large to know Epic or 40k that well.
...but I also think I have the right to expect people using eBay to understand what they are bidding on and what the relative value is, too. |
Within reason, I agree with you. But would you know everything about every area in ebay? I know I would not. And if my 10 year old pointed out an aution and asked me to bid, and it had risen to a level that did not see too out of line for what he thought it was, I would have bid too.
Might I suggest we agree to disagree on this. I know you will not convince me that the seller could have done more even once it had closed. And I assume by your comments I will not change your mind.
