Does anyone know of a good, reliable (preferably UK, online) source of 1/2" x 1/2" square bases? They need to be thin enough for 6mm infantry, but metal or plastic is all fine. Yes, I realise that I could make these, but I cant even cut in a straight line!  Thanks. |

Litko make bases of all sorts and sizes, and are able to do custom orders to match your personal needs. Cutting straight lines with sheet styrene is really easy. Just mark the edges in 1/2" increments, then use an X-acto knife with a metal ruler to score the sheet. It will then break along the score line when you bend it. I did this to make about 60 40mm X 40mm bases for Fantasy Rules! I also bought sticky sheet magnets for the bottom of my bases so they stick to the metal carrying case. The skill level required is about the same as drawing a straight line with a ruler. |

Easier still... buy plastic card that is textured with 1/4" or 1/16" squares. ?Then just cut along the lines; you don't even have to cut all the way through... just score it, and bend the other side to break the sheet. ?At least, that's what the package says! I'm holding in my hand Evergreen Scale Models, item number 4501. ?I'm sure that there are equivalents in the UK and in Europe. The only problem is that the card may not be thick enough with just one layer (1mm). |

I think you may also be able to buy Evergreen with 1/2" tiles. It may be sold as a sidewalk texture. |

I bought a paper cutter for exactly that reason. I've cut up to 1mm plasticard without a problem. It's quick and you're guaranteed a straight line and square corner. Plus you have a built in ruler. I searched a bit but I found one for less than $20US on clearance at an office supply store. === That said, I'm pretty sure DRM has small, square bases made for single 6mm infantry that should be about that size. (That's the Heritage Studios site - base pics about half way down.) |

Thanks guys. I tried making small, square bases for a fantasy project a while ago (cough... Tuff?). I found that I am incapable of cutting plasticard in a straight line. The paper cutter idea is really good. I will look around for one. Thanks. The skill level required is about the same as drawing a straight line with a ruler. See, I told you that I would have trouble! The DRM bases may be interesting, excpet that the centre circle would get in the way... and they are not available yet! |
