I'm considering giving this Gothic thing a try, as it looks like a completely awesome game, but I'm considering my exact angle of entry here.  I'm planning to launch into the Gothic Sector with an Ultramarines Dominion Fleet, starting with the boxed set and building from there.  The idea of Buying 12 strike cruisers to allow me to field 4 Imperial cruisers sounds a bit silly to me, so I figured, "one Rogue Trader cruiser, one Imperial cruiser, and one...  Venerable Battle Barge???"
Can this be done?  Can a battleship be made from two plastic cruisers?  I have some slight experience with plasticard (I made a Rogue Trader style whirlwind a couple months back) and plenty with chopping up little plastic miniatures.  Is it possible, or simply not worth considering?  Thanks.

Warmaster Nice would answer this better, but the easy way out is the reply to this question:
Do you like catamarans? ???

And if the answer is yes, all you have to do is chop off the wings (one port, one starboard) and glue the pair together. Or build an intervening pontoon.
And remove any guns which would end up pointing at the opposite hull! :D

I don't mind my catamarans...  on the water.  And the P-38 Lightning is a fine fighter plane.  But I can't really see a huge space dreadnought laid out like that.  Thanks for the metaphor.   :D

And I didn't tell you the whole story - I built one, but eventually dismantled it - and no pics, sorry...
A longer ship, using one cruiser as an extension in length of the other would be another way out, but I'd guess you need bulk as well. And plasticard comes in.  A possible suggestion would be a demi-catamaran (oh dear) - For simplicity - assume the hulls are cut in half. The rear halves of of one cruiser, including the superstructure and bridge are fitted sandwhiching a thick plastic block (or better still, a shaped component which can be detailed). The two sets of forward hulls are fitted to the single thick rear. A bit like the Chaos battleship.
Still not much good, eh?  :(

It is most certainly possible. Officially, the Battle Cruisers are simply standard Cruisers with additional weapon fits. Now, Battleships should be a little larger than this, but not especially. I would guess that the best way to do this is to cut the prow off Cruiser A, just in front of the foremost weapon pallet slot. Then cut the Cruiser B between the two weapon pallet slots. Now attach the back section of Cruiser A to the front of Cruiser B. This should give you a longer vessel, with places for three weapons pallets.

OI! Someone mantioned me name ye salty space dogs!? :D

It is definitely possible to build battleships based on the plastic cruisers.

This is my take on an Invincible class fast battleship however the same principles probably applies if you want to build a normal BB.

Like  CS said yuo should start by stretching the gun bays. However I don't think it is necessary to use parts from a second ship for this. adding a bit of balsa wood or plasticard should be enough. However I think you should make the cut behind the front dorsal Lance/aerial "deck". This way you can  disguise some of the stretched bit by adding some more dorsal turrets (most BBs have 4 or 5 IIRC).
Another idea is to widen the hul somewhat. You can't tell very well from the pics but the rear part of the ship was widened about 1/2 cm and more engines added to make the ship look a bit bulkier. To do this you need to split the rear part into 4 bits. a "top", two sides and the bottom. (see ilustration) and insert some balsawood or plasticard spacers. It is just possible to avoid using greenstuff to fill any gaps if you are carefull with your cutting but if you are going to make the ship wider still it probably can't be avoided.
As asways if you feel you are getting to many plain surfaces a good trick is to sand one side of an aerial (imperial or chaos) and glue it on for some texture.

Cheers!

Very good!  I think that I could perhaps handle such a project, having let the Warmaster do the hard work of figuring out how to do it!  Thanks.

If you want something more challenging I've also seen a really cool Apocalypse battleship made from several cruisers. I think it was RedRam who built it and posted on the old SG BFG forum but I'm not sure. If someone has a link to that model it'd be cool.

Cheers! :)

Thanks Malika. No I haven't really written up a tutorial as such. I'll see about doing that soon but perhaps it would be a good subject for another thread. :;):

Cheers!
