Post subject:  Epic Dark Angels pros and cons
Hi all,
I've been bitten by the L-4 bug it seems. Following (here's hoping) Deffsta the Gargant, I'm planning to build my beloved SM Landing Craft. My original plan was to paint it in my modified Angels of Fire scheme (black drybrushed with red, yellow flame markings). Easy and quick, but not overly tactical. I've decided the Dark Angels have the - uh - tacticallest ? - colour scheme. There must be hundreds of DA Epic players out there - and thousands of tried-them-but-given-them-upppers. So - what are the pros and cons of painting and assembling a DA army in Epic scale? My main worry are the emblems. I could, of course, create my own chapter, but I'll give these boys their chance, first. So any thoughts? Or any other tactical-colour (basing on Earth-scale colours, that is) chapters? ?:l

PS - Markconz' DAs are a VERY nice army, incidentally!

Um... I don't understand.  The only aircraft in all the Ork lists are Fighta-Bommas or Big Bommerz.

DA - You could field the Ravenwing using the White Scars chapter list as a proxy that I think would work fairly well.  Or just the core list, or both.  As far as emblems, skip the emblems on the troops.  Use the waterslide transfers for the 40K troops on epic vehicles.

Other chapters - Here's a site with all the published SM chapters and as much detail as can be gleaned from official sources.  There are plenty that have relatively natural green/brown/grey/off-white color schemes.

Umm - it's a creation of mine, Nealhunt. A real big flying nasty.... :;): Remember, I'm the one who uses Vindicators as AA....

Good ideas those, although I'd need to invest in bikes. And I guess the 40K transfers for vehicles should work. You're probably right about the troops - can't see me trying to paint a sword in that scale....

Brown Skull Bearers? Tan Angels of Vigilance? Olive drab war Bearers? Food for thought.... Thanks! :D :D

L4SoTR ... it's alive !! :o ?Tactical colors are the answer ! :;): ?UM = Prussian Blue-Gray; BA = Rust Brown, etc. ... ?:D ?BTW- ?F/W Epic Ork Bomma ... any offical stats ?

Heh  :D  you lead us wisely, master of occlusion!

BA = Rust Brown - now that's interesting - I'm into brown schemes lately (see Blood Axe Vindy, Uruk Hai..) - I guess someone should make a study on how my moods affect my current favoured colour schemes.  :{
Seriously, I like the chapter-colour-translation concept.  :cool:

Thanks for the kind words Vanvlak!

I'd say DA are the easiest to paint! Just spray black, then drybrush DA green...

As for emblems - you shouldn't even need to worry about them in epic scale except on banenrs and a few items maybe... then just use small transfers! Or a simplified marking I guess.

That is exactly what I did - then I saw Dougs DA painting diary - and now I think I am doing to have to redo my entire army :S.

Yep.  They are in the OGBm list on the Epic website.

Aircraft, Bomber, 5+ armor, n/a assault stats
2 heavy shootas, 15cm, AP5/AA5, FXF
heavy Bomb Racks, 15cm, 1BP, FXF
