First of all my apologies for posting this here instead of in the general discussion but since this was the only place where I could upload an image I took the liberty of posting here. Basically I just bought a domain to host a website. It is mainly intended as a portfolio but i want to add an Epic section to display some of my work. I know some of you web designer pros will probably frown (5th, C/S, Netepic -I'm sorry; it's the best I can do ![]() ![]() ![]() Cheers! ![]() |

Thanks. A couple of questions: How big should the page be to fit in the browser? I tried 1024x768 but that is the total width of the screen so it is too big to fit inside the browser window. Anyone know how broad a browser window is? Also: How big is a standard browser page approx.? (in Kb -I don't want to make it too heavy so people have to wait for ages for the page to load) does some 100-200 kb sound too big? Cheers! ![]() |

As a general rule, 800 x 600 is about the largest standard right now. However, my web stats show that the majority of my visitors have screens at 1024 x 7xx. Still, I would aim at 800 x 600, as it will fit 90% of screens. Also, a good rule is that each page, including images, etc, should be no more than 50-60Kb, so that it will download in under a minute on a 56K modem. I hope that this helps. The site looks very nice, clean and easy to navigate as well as being atractive. Good work. My personal opinion is that web pages with sound should be driven to hell, never to return... but that is just me. Just remember that a 100K sound file would add two minutes to the download time. Sit in front of your PC and time out 3 minutes to see how long it really is. |

I'm with CS, going for a website which will fit on a 800x600 screen res is certainly the way to go, though of course from a page design point of view you really need to be using 780 pixels wide. Also CS is not alone when it comes to his view on sound on websites and I agree with him totally. |

Nice layout, sure, but a little over-the-top for my tastes... Be sure that it does not exceed your bandwidth, tho! Oh, sometimes it is better to start on a free host and then when you are sure you wont waste your money move to a better one. I think that minimizing the extraneoys graphics in return for more content is always a good bet, but that's just me: practical to the limits. I advise you to use the most powerful HTML editor ever... the humble Notepad. I used it to code pretty much entirety of my site. On other notep, CoffeCup Free HTML might be a good thing for beginning. |

*spits* yuck.. notepad... after spending 2 weeks at school using notepad to code sites, I was very glad to move onto Dreamweaver... it is unbelievably easy to use, as a novice, I highly reccomend it! ![]() |
