Hi folks
Just added a couple of new Lunars to the Golgotha conflict. These are of course conversions in keeping with the aim to have all the ships in the fleet as unique as possible.
I.M.S. Desiree is a standard plastic cruiser with scratchbuilt prow and a bridge from one of the chaos ships, with scratchbuilt AO turrets.

I.M.S. Nightlight is an OOP DLD model with a scratch built prow and turrets plus bridge and engines from the plastic cruiser kit.

Bob, can I ask why you took the decision to make your own prows for your vessels? They look really nice, but did you just not like the 'standard' one? And, are you regretting the decision after so many?  :D

yeah easy to answer. The first reason was GW artwork. If you look through all the rulebooks, magazines and comic strips, Imperial vessels have prows very different to that depicted on the plastic cruiser kit. First off they are proportionally bigger and secondly they are "solid-er" looking. More in keeping with the Dauntless prow than the plastic ones. In actual fact the Dauntless prow is bigger than that of the Plastic kit which, In my opinion, looks too small for something designed to plow through enemy vessels. My first conversion was just that, to put a Dauntless prow on the plastic cruiser. What really converted me however was some film shots made for GW in a proposed 40k based animation by a company called "exile films" They did a great take of an ordnance attack on Imperial lunars. The ships had huge slab sided armoured prows, minimal ribbing , outstanding figureheads and just stank of "hardness". That's when I first built my own prows.

heheh as to regretting the decision,  yes there are times. Especially when I tell you I have made a large number for other gamers around the world. A complete prow takes me around 3 to 4 hours of solid work without the drying times etc. So it can get tedious. However when I see a line up of my ships each with its own distinctive  touches and prow variations I am convinced my decision was "right" for me.
There are players who dislike the large prows and feel they are disproportionate but hey, it's a game and it's fantasy. whatever turns you on.
:D
