Post subject:  Building an Ork Space Hulk
This is a long-term construction (read slow and not a priority :) LOL) project.

What I have...

- Various bit of BFG bits to give a scavaged look
- A few WFB Orc glyphs
- A number of odd Epic Ork bits
- Poor modelling skills ? :{

I think I can chuck a load of the bits I've collected around a central core to make a passable Hulk, but haven't worked out want to use for this core.

I was going to use real rocks/stones/pebbles, but decided that would be impractical to join together and too heavy.

A possibility is to get some cheap and knocked about 2nd plastic cruisers, but they either wouldn't be big enough or my conversion skills not up to the task of making realistic joins between the craft.

Currently I was thinking of going with something plastic and hollow like film canisters and building up an outer skin of GW stuff so they are completey hidden.

Any help would be appreciated!

Jackhammer,

1. I'd start with two bases and join them solidly with a piece of wood or metal to give a sturdy base.

2. The I'd fit some chunks of styrofoam or foam insulation on the sturdy base. Use white glue since most superglues will melt foam chunks. The glue will hard the spaces bwteen the styrofoam chunks.

3. Start working the bitz, hunkz, and chunkz in at this point. Have a few cruisers stinking out of the hulk.

4. Detail with the bitz. Lay down some base coats on the asteroids and bigger ship hunks. It will start to look good at this point.

5. Finish the bitz detailling by adding smaller pieces (Epic Whirlwind rocket pods, smaller turrets, etc.).

6. Add more base coats.

7. Wash the whole thing with a brown / black / water wash.

8. Add highlights.

9. Wash the whole thing AGAIN with a brown / black / water wash.

10. Ink with Chesnut ink and the like for selective rust patches.

11. Sit back, drink some tasty beverage, and admire your masterpiece.

We have two hulks with my BFG playing partners. Both hulks used just about the same process! ?:;):

My friend. Tim's, hulk used a T-34 tank chassis mixed in with MiG-21 parts before the BFG bitz appeared. His hulk is less an asteroid acquiring trash than a home-made Ork construct.
