Hey folks, nice to have the forums back.

In celebration I thought I'd start yet another blog for you all to read/ignore as you wish - I hope to keep it updated at least semi-regularly, and aim to cover a good range of models and miniatures, so hopefully it should interest most of you at least some of the time.   :;):

I mainly plan to cover Epic (of course!), Necromunda figures and terrain, BFG, a little 40k and finally Hostile Stars (the new DRM space combat game).

I'll be putting up plenty of piccies to keep things interesting and share the techniques I use.

As I write it is the end of the university Easter break here in the UK and I'm about to knuckle down for my final term; lots to be done, but I have had a bit of time in the last week or two to get some painting and modelling done. Tomorrow I'll kick things off by snapping a few pics of the beginnings of my Hostile Stars Krayt fleet, some Necromunda figures and anything else I have lying around that might interest you all - cya then!

Gabe

Heh, I won't keep you waiting any longer, here goes!

These are the first ships in my fledgling (or should that be hatchling? :;): ) Krayt fleet for Hostile Stars; a pair of mighty TwinBlade cruisers and a pair of agile Dark Knife frigates. Cheers Doug for hooking me up with these!

The TwinBlades are awesome models, with plenty of gribbly bits which makes drybrushing them a dream, and the large flat areas are great for stripy details and symbols.
They do take a while to clean up due to all the detail, but I think they are well worth the time, and imo they are a bargain at £3.50 each.

Here are a few closeups;

The basic paintjob for these is REALLY easy to do; I simply brush Regal Blue over a black undercoat, then Ultramarines Blue on top of that, finishing with Space Wolves Grey and maybe a bit of white drybrushed on top - simple as that. I highly reccomend using large brushes when painting models like this; a large drybrush gives you a really even coat and speeds painting up no end.

With a new game like this and limited background on the SoW races it is really nice to have some freedom just to play with colour schemes and designs.
I took the striping I'd used on the 'studio' models I painted for DRM and tried to apply it here in interesting ways, differentiating the models and using the flat spaces to their full potenital. I chose the little nova symbol as my fleet insignia; it is easy to paint and adds a little splash of interest and colour to the restricted palette I'm using. I'll add symbols to the firgates once I have a few more finished; I just wasn't feeling up to it last night at 2am. :p  The flames I just did for fun but I'm pleased with how they came out and I'll definitely be using them more.

Hope that whets your appetites; I'll be back with some different spaceships later!

G

Here are the other spaceships...

This time it is a little squadron of some Homeworld inspired models! I know a few of you frequent the SCN forums and I'm sure you'll be aware of a chap who goes by the moniker Zandris IV - he produces some lovely little miniatures which bear more than a passing resemblance to ships from one of the greatest series of games ever!  :p

I picked up some of his new Kadeshi models at Salute last month, and here they are; two Fuel Pods and a pair of the beautiful but deadly Multibeam Frigates.

These models are small and pretty expensive for what you get, but detail is good and they paint up really easily. All I need now are a few more of each and a whole swarm of er, swarmers.  :upside:

After cleaning up, which was easy apart from the Fuel Pods which had a rather horrid mould line all the way round, I undercoated black and it was then a simple succession of a couple of grey drybrushes up to white, with a few little details in red. I tried an engine glow effect too which came out reasonably well for such minute things.

I used the game (duh) and the awesome Homeworld Shipyards site as reference for these. Even if you arn't interested in the game the site is a great resource, the screenshots along with the simply fabulous concept art are an excellent source of inspiration for colours, patterns and designs for your miniatures.

Cheers
G

I'm a big fan of the z4 models. I've got all of the TDC models, they're really nice.

You're right though, those nebula guardians did seem pretty expensive compared to the other ships.

And finally!  :;):

My final trio of Necromunda gribblies; the nasty looking Millasaurs.

Super simple paintjob again, just a few layers on the greens and likewise to build up the bone shades. I then washed the claws and plates with the old Flesh Wash, and the fleshy bits with the old Green Ink, which dries shiny and suits these organic, slimy things.

I intend to add some licheny stuff to the bases to make them a little more colourful, and might even highlight them a little more or maybe try some mottled effects on their bellies, but this will do for now.

I hope you liked day one. I can't promise to be as productive as this every week but do keep checking back and I'll keep posting!

Happy modelling.
Gabe

Thanks for the postive response guys.

I'm away having fun here until Monday, so have a great weekend/rest of the week one and all.

Ooh, and Van - TTA ships are soon to be back on the bench. I have castings of three Piranhas and three Minnows to paint up before my degree show which is just over a month away; I'm just looking for some suitably elgant turned wooden bases to mount them all on first.

Cheers

Nice paint jobs on the millasaurs and spaceships. I am not totally sold on Hostile Stars designs but credit to DRM for trying something different. Look to paint up well though.

Cheers
