I'm beginning to paint a space marine fleet too.
As my goal is a 2000 point fleet, here is 2 space marine battlebarge. Yes, 2 :p
I'm making crimson fists, as i've got a full epic chapter and will soon have some 40k ones (well i've got ones, but in boxe, waiting....).

Looks great!  Battle Barges are tough as nails!  I've yet to have one even become crippled, then again I haven't played much either.  Two are just merciless; I caught an opponent between two barge running tandem the combined broadside and bombardment cannons obliterated him!

Yes, haven't played marine yet (just chaos vs chaos or navy vs chaos) but judging by the rules, they seemed pretty tought.

The new Space Marine Codex from GW has a map of the galaxy near the back.  For the first time I know of, the map spells out chapter locations for a lot of the main (from GW's point of view) chapters.  There is also a lot of 'fluff' about the Crimson Fist's near elimination, and rebuilding efforts.  Were someone to ask me why I have so many of a nearly zero sized chapter, I would say that the rebuilding effort was successfully completed years ago. So I say no limits.
    Just curious, did you think about the Battle Barge with the Lances in place of Weapons Batteries?  I have such, and one with weapons batteries, and with the two Barges in tandom, even Orks with armored bows have worries.  The data for the lance armed version came out so long ago, I wondered if folks still know about it.
    Looking forward to see what you do with your cruisers and escorts, hope it's soon.

Of course folks know about it and it's not a legal ship and it should not be made into a legal ship and should never even be seen on the table.

The lance version is worse then Horus himself. It should have never seen the light. It's against the background and daft itself. It says it was build as an anti-Tyranid ship but Batteries are better against Nids than lances!

I've been told by a mate that Marine fleets are not very effective in BFG because they lack [insert what they're lacking here].

I don't remember what it was, nor know enough about the game to say for myself. Anyone here want to chip in?

Indeed SM fleets are not effective in BFG; they are devastating!  Anyone who thinks SM fleets are a joke have either never played against one or have played completely inept players.

It's all fun and games until the bombardment cannon comes to bear!  :p

Marine fleets aren't that bad. But in straight up engagements they lack. As they should. It is fluffy.

But in the hands of a canny player they're a though nut to crack.
