Nice conversion and modelling, but from a technical POV why 4 sets of tracks?
"Curious"...

"Curious"... | All the modelling and converting on the tank is Krooza's work - so I dont know the "technical" reason - but it doesnt half look cool......

Quote (kr00za @ 08 2004 Feb.,15:05) | As for the tecnical side of things... its all done for looks | Not quite, Krooza - you're right in applying wide tracks, if you want to reduce the track pressure over ground. Could help prevent damage to roads you'd not want to have to rebuild, for example. This was done by the Germans in WWII, for example, to Panzer VI (Tiger) tanks, with extra width track sections being fitted to the standard tracks to distribute the load over a larger area.

As I understand it, the Germans were copying what they had observed in the T34.
The wider track sections reduced ground pressure as you say, particulalry for use in snow and on boggy ground.
My comment was more why there was 4 sets of independant tracks when 2 wider ones would really be better for the vehicle- for looks? then hey cool! Its does look good!

The Panther was created in direct response to the T-34.

From what Ive read on the subject which isnt much I beleive the the T34 wasnt only a kick-arse tank but also a very simple cheap design, this ment thry could be mass produced as an incredable rate, this coupled with the fact of all the major countries involved in WW2 Russia's armourment builders were some of them most hard working, deadicated people around ment that the production of the T34 was a massive opporation. The Germans main mistake was to try to improve on the T34 design instead of just copying it. Although on many point the German Tiger and Panther better than the T34, they were of a much more complecated design and impossable to produce on the same scale. The Tiger being a very good example of this, this tank was arguably the best tank ever prodruced during WW2, but its complecated design ment it entered service far too late and in too few numbers to make any difference.

That is generally correct. When the Germans first ran into the T-34 they had a hard time dealing with it. Both the USSR and the US literally out-produced the Germans, their designs (T-34 and M-4 Sherman) were simpler and easier to produce. The Panther, Tiger I & II, were pretty hard to beat one-on-one. But the Allies could lose 4 tanks to kill one German tank. Couple that with air superiority ... and the rest is history !!!
