I finally came to my senses on the subject of exams. The conclusion was three words: **** the exams! Seriously, though, I cannot hope to succeed in all this turn, so I'll skip on the oral Polish - and thus I'll have another go at this one in January. The rest I'll try to beat now.

Painting - two of my Dark Angels got their Chapter badges right (freehand :D).
The Rhino gunner is also progressing with more GS work. Also, 30 minutes of filing and carving with various types of files resulted in his left hand changing from a normal Tactical marine hand into a badass skeleton-like bionic.

Sorry, forgot the conversion concept. Here it goes:

Diorama. Split in half.

One part - Space Marine kneeling before the Commander (or Chaplain), receiving honors. Can also be a Commander kneeling before the Chaplain. Bright, live colors. The marines can be Blood Ravens or Blood Angels (red).

Second part - Squad of nine Space Marines standing on guard. Sergeant has skull instead of head, same for a few of the squadmembers. Some have exposed bones in place of hands and whole arms. Armor rusted, in a state of decay, with the paint flaking of here and there. Unearthly palette - faded colors, grey, black and dark blue dominating in that part. Muted colors, _blue_ light.

Keep the kneeling marine as the center of the setting. Have the "ghostly" part of the diorama behind his back.

Basing for the "live" side would be standard desert, for the "dead" it will be barren, black rock to further accentuate the contrast.

Motto: "For every hero praised, a hundred lie dead and unsung"

Optional: If the Commander option for the central Marine is used, make it look like the parts in the "spooky" part belong to a basic Tactical trooper who just got elevated from the Scout status.

Optional: Have a guard of five Marines on the "live" part of the diorama. This will provide extra contrast.[QUOTE]

The attached image is a rough pixel-sketch of how is it supposed to look.

I painted up a couple of Imperial cruisers for BFG today. Also I've been snapping pics for the BFG section of the Epic Lounge 2.0. The idea is to do the pics in a controlled environment in a way where I can add new ships while the lighting in the pics stay the same. I've been experimenting a bit with the use of flash. Though I wouldn't normally using it for miniature photography I think it just might work for BFG if I manage to eliminate any light reflections.
Anyway here's a quick comparison pic:

Cheers! :)

Stick a white cloth over the flash, I sometimes use the foam from a blister pack.

WM Nice, have you thought about using a light diffusion box? Heard that they work very well for controlled lighting enviroment...

Could not anymore stand the fact that Chaos Gate doesn't run under XP. Went and installed Microsoft Virtual PC. Created some virtual HDD, then installed Win98 and Chaos Gate. It works perfectly.   Today, the enemies of the Emperor shall know fear...

Fraid though that I'll have to scrap the current virtual HDD's and redo the install. Piece of cake.

You might wanna change that :), Reikland and Stirland are landlocked. The river Reik surely won't be big enough for great ships, and the river Stir certainly isn't :). Even though they have the Stirland River Patrol. Middenheim is totally land locked. Marienburg is your best bet, although it isn't part of the Empire, it is the only major port where they can base there fleet.

Some painting. Sisters of Battle progressed a bit, plus began another freehand Chapter badge on on of my DA... seems that this one will be the best so far (and hardest to do :D ).

Jeebers, that axe is massive, even if it doesn't penetrate the armour think of the concussion effect!!!
