Great to hear from you Carl. Your work is always a great source of inspiration :)
I thought the Nightwings were sweet before but now I'm speechless! I think I may as well not bother to paint up my SG ones now... :D

BTW: With FW's habit of upsizing their flyers compared to the SG versions, does anybody know how these compare to the SG Nightwings in size?

Cheers!

Those Eldar fliers are absolutely fantastic! I will certainly need to re-equip my Eldar air fleet when they are released. And, I am following the general dismay about the lack of BFG stuff - particularly the Mars fleet. When was the last time that BFG actually got any serious release? Ork Heavy Kroozas?

I wouldn't so much describe it as a habit as such. Forgeworld take the trouble to follow scale and accurately scale down at 1:5 from their 40K counterparts, whereas SG don't go to those lengths hence the often unfortunately large disparity in sizes between the two ranges.
With regards to the Nightwing, the Forgeworld version is considerably larger than the old metal E40K one that was re-released for the Swordwind. I would estimate at least twice as large from memory. I'll be able to give a better comparisson once I start painting them and get the two side by side, but I'd say expect a large disparity I'm afraid.

Thanks for the kind words guys, it's nice to be back working on Epic again after such a long break on the 'larger' scale heh. I have a few bits to finish off and finally put to rest (like the Salamanders and Guard), so they will get the initial attention, but after that, I have a few irons in the fire I'd like to start working on again, the Eldar included.

And even better to hear from you Carl. I am going to pretend I didn't see the bit in your sig about Dropship being scheduled for de-commission. If I don't see then it can't be true, right?

Ahh, don't worry about that. It's just because the link is to the current version of Dropship, which I will be de-commissioning in the near future as its not been updated since last year. I have been working on a replacement for it for the past few months on and off as I needed to standardise the format more to be less manually intensive (and therefore easier for me to update more frequently).
I'll chop out the old version of the site once I have completed porting over all the content and actually added some new articles.

It's being decommissioned for a new version, not removed alltogether heh. I'm not going anywhere, I only just got back :p

Regards
Carl

Good to hear from you Carl, looking forward to seeing the new sites.

I seemed to have missed a lot this year at GD...

There were two EA games on display and I saw only one.

I never did see JJ or the Specialist Games bit...

Missed out on Will's GK Grand Master.

Ah well, always next year.

Also must get those eyes tested!!!

Carl -
Adding my voice to the "Welcome back!" crowd... :)

I'm not a frequent-poster, but I've been an avid viewer of your DropShip site for years.
I'm very glad to hear that you'll be more active here on the Epic lists - welcome back!!

Larry

Sadly their is no BFG news from Gamesday, even if the Mars Fleet has been on display in 2004!

Well, there was some BFG news, just not good - no new releases for 12 months.....

Carl> I think the reason no-one noticed the swing-wing design is that the sculptor was pre-occupied with people asking about the Manta all day, and didn't mentin it himself (or at least not while I was lurking at FW, it must be said).

When I spoke to Will about Epic stuff, he didn't mention it to me...

Probably thought it was standard on these models and therefore not worthy of a mention, whereas to us mere mortals it is an incredible feat of modelling and sculpting!

Something he did say to me was that there wasn't much time allocated to Epic stuff, which is a pity.

BTW the 40K scale Manta will be in the ?500-?1000 price range. Makes the Epic one look real cheap!

Don't suppose he mentioned anything other than the Phoenix and Hellblade for Epic to you, did he? I meant to ask about Elysians and Tallarn, and completely forgot :(

And that's without asking if we'll see the Bombard, Griffon and new Hellhound in their proper scale, either.....

Unfortunately, that is pretty much the deal currently. No Epic work is being actively commissioned by Tony, partly I suspect due to the lack of any serious marketting by GW. Most of the Epic models the Forgeworld designers (aka Will and Darren in the main, Sam occassionaly) are making have to be done in their spare time. All commission work which takes priority is for 40K and Warhammer.

As Will has to make a living off the commission work, he simply doesn't get the time in the day to work on Epic off the books. That said, Tony does happily pay for any Epic work done, just won't give it any kind of priority against other work on the 'to do' list.

Fortunately, both Will and Darren do seem to enjoy creating the odd Epic model in their spare time, so we are not starved completely. But yes, as Jimbo says, its not a great picture I'm afraid.

As for anything new coming out of the Studio post SG exterminatus for Epic, I certainly wouldn't hold your breath in the short term... I'm not.

Darren 'will probably' do the Vampire Raider/Hunter as the 40K version was his baby, not Will's. No idea on likely timeframe though sorry. I don't know about Elysians and Tallarns, I'll ask Will when I see him next, but I would doubt it in the current climate.

Regards
Carl

Very depressing news indeed :( Feral Orks delayed... well allright. Two major fanatic releases a year... uhm... with 6 games systems to support I feel chaos slipping away to well... the 41st millennium...
If things continue downhill I really hope Jervis will do what he can to at least keep the current stuff available or get the archives back online... though chances are slim... :blues:

Cheers! :)

Hi,

Just wanted to let people know that the Grand Master Grey Knight was part of the Terminator set.  Will mentioned that its never been noticed til Gamesday.  Sorry about that but Will Hayes confirmed it
