I finally did the first tests for the Imperial and Chaos paint schemes. (And I was amazed at how easy the basic paint job of BFG models are -I love it!  :D )

Basically they're minor, paler variations on the GW fleets.

For thje Imperials I've gone for a Catachan Green heavy drybrush followed by Vile Green and Rotting Flesh for the highlights.

The Chaos ships are Scortched Brown followed by Teracotta and Terracotta/Bleached bone mix.

On the chaos ships I'm particularly pleased with the result as the red is suficiently toned down not to look too "Khorny" (sorry about the bad pun...) It should be fairly easy to make slight variations for Nurgle Daemon ships and other chaos factions.

I'm going to add the usual white pprows to the Imperial ships I think. That and gold trimmings and I think I should have a fairly simple and reasonably good looking fleet.

Cheers!  :)

Looking good. They are nice and easy to paint up, arent they. This coupled with the huge potential for conversions is what makes the game great for collectors.

Nice paintjob WMN.

Reminds me of how much fun it was drybrushing Imperial/Chaos ships.

I agree- adding the white and gold to Imperial will set off the green nicely. Have you thought about adding a second colour to Chaos ships to do likewise?

Possibly a metallic? Brass would make it look too Krhonate- which you are trying to avoid. Maybe silver or gold would work?

Or even some black if you don't like metallics. I saw on new SG BFG website some pics posted by Nate Montes from BFG Yahoo Group- the black and red looked really cool without being too Khornate.

Cheers

James

Thanks guys. :)
I spent a couple of hours this afternoon doing the basic drybrushing on most of my Chaos Fleet. I hope to do at least some of the Imperials tonight or possibly tomorrow. Also I finished a couple of planets. -Nothing sensational; just a few styrofoam balls with sand and paint.

Cheers! :)

The ship in green at the back... is that a conversion?

Yup. It's  pretty much scratch built using a few bits from the Venegance, some plastic cruiser parts and the superstructure from a HMS Belfast airfix kit.

Cheers! :)

I love the Dreadnought. Now you must name her "Executor" and start calling your fleet "Death's Head Squadron"...  }:)  :p

And don't forget Lord Admiral Vader...
