I got this one. The plan is to pin any threads which are deemed useful. I will then go through an compile a list of FAQs for each board as a single pinned topic and update this as needed.

Therefore, if there are any useful threads, please get a mod to pin them and I will deal with them as they arrive. If the thread is long, also please include a post as to exactly what the useful information is, just so that I dont archive thewrong stuff!  ???

...I guess Jimbo could just pin this thread like the "stripping paint" one, seeing as it might be potentially useful for new foru users....

I would if I could....

however I am not the mod for this part of the forum!

Air Brushes are wonderful and...

Expensive!

Having said that, an airbrush can make micro camo patterns that are long and tedious to do with a brush an easy task.

I still don''t have one and borrow a friends on occasion.

Airbrushes are fantastic for aircraft, even 6mm or Epic ones!

One of the tricks to get one to work properly is to use a fine tip, constantly clean it, and use very thin paint.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Primarch,

Air brushes usually go between $40.00 USD to several hundred (usually around $200.00 USD) dollars.

A separate compressor will go for between $20.00 to $100.00 USD or more.

Not cheap!

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Primarch,

Either that or I'm a cheapskate!

My aztek was about $160. My good badger single action was around $80.  My badger beginner was about $40.
For an air source, I used to use a tank I picked up at wal-mart for about $20.  I'd fill it at the gas station down the street. I found an old rotary aircompressor at a garage sale for about $50.  If you don't do a lot of airbrushing I'd recommend the tank method.  I could brush two 1/35 tank models on a single fill up.  If you opt for a compressor and plan to run your brush directly off of it, get a rotary or dual action pump.  This will supply a steady stream of air. Single action pumps inhale and exhale. This gives an unreliable stream of air.
Also invest in a moisture trap, about $25.

When buying a compressor you should tell the salesperson you are going to use it for painting. Some compressors are known to have tiny amounts of lubricant in the air they spray. Not enough to stain anything but the oil tends to have a dramatic effect on paints...

Not all of us are paid insane amounts of money for poking gangrenous intestines.  :;):  Then again most of us aren't poking intestines _at all_.  :p

Hi!

Point taken Mojarn.  :)

I still think less than 200 dollars for the airbrush and compressor is pretty darn good considering what it does.

Now that I think of it, yes. A few years ago one could barely get a _compressor_ for less than 200$ up here. The brush (a good one) then cost about another 100$  :O
