Right now, it looks like the Mini manufacturers are basing their pricing on software prices (Console games especially). ?An XBox or PS2, plus some top-line games, will set you back $300, while a nextgen system (XBox 360 or PS3) is at least $500 not counting games. ?When people don't blink about that kind of $$ for an entry price anymore, can you blame the mini manufacturers for assuming that is the price point?
I read an interesting essay on this. The person said it was based on the value of one hour of entertainment.
If people will pay $8 for a movie at 90 minutes. That ends up being about $5 an hour. So if a good computer game lasts a user 6 hours that is $30 dollars for example. I do not recall the exact formula, but he made a good case. Perceived value per hour. Using his formula at the time I figured a good RPG should cost me about $300 to $350. With the basic rule books at $30 to $45 and other things like figures etc I figure some games have cost me more then twice that.
Anyway, it is an interesting idea.
What is your fun time worth to you?
